Friends don't let friends read "Atlas Shrugged"

he he ... have you seen the ad from Petco? it's Christmas morning and a boy is checking out his present, shaking it vigorously, and his parents are sitting on the couch watching. The mother asks, the father says he wanted a guinea pig ... and you see the kid bashing the present against the floor. The mother looks worried, the father says he thought it would be good for them to pick it out together ... and the kid's overjoyed to have a gift card for a guinea pig (no guinea pigs were harmed in the production of this commercial).

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

The one year I went snooping to see my gifts, I found a book I was super excited to get! And then Christmas came and went, and I didn't get the book. OK, no big deal, it must have been for my birthday. Next day, my birthday comes, NO BOOK. They forgot to give it to me, but I couldn't say anything because then they'd know I was snooping. I got it eventually.

If you're going through hell/keep on going/don't slow down/keep your fear from showing/you might be gone/'fore the devil even knows you're there

I found a book hidden for me once and kept sneaking it out and reading it. So then by xmas I had read it and it was a giant let down on xmas morning. Learned my lesson.

Cats to become a rabbit should gather immediately now here

When I was in high school my best friend and I each bought each other "Interview with a Vampire" because we saw the movie. But neither of us could wait, so we both very carefully, without breaking the spine, read the copy we were going to give to the other!

I feel like teeth on fish are a bridge too far.

Love that.

I have twice in my life bought the same gift the other person had bought me, and doesn't it make you feel like soulmates?

My family's done that (buying the same book for each other). And I early on mastered the art of reading a book and leaving it immaculate.

Life moves pretty fast. You don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.

I had a friend in high school, who snooped and discovered he was getting a fringed leather jacket he'd really wanted (hey, it was the 70s). He carefully unwrapped it, tried it on, realized it was the wrong size, took it to the store and exchanged it for the correct size, and rewrapped it. That took balls, IMO.
