I must obey the inscrutable exhortations of my soul—Calvin and Hobbs

May the Bros have many Has for you!

Yessss!

Sarameg, I'm sorry about the gallstone and associated inconveniences.

The thing I was stressing about at work last week worked out well, and I was pretty visible over a holiday weekend (not an expected thing at my workplace) helping that happen, so I think that went well. PEP mid-year reviews are coming up, so the timing was nice.

I wish I could just go somewhere to get flensed but none of the whaling ships near me take Medicare.

My belated condolences to Sail Aweigh and family.

Congratulations, David!

The managing editor emailed it to all the senior management and me with the subject line "More proof of greatness!".

Also congratulations to Steph. This is fantastic.

hip deep in pie

Nathan Fillion just posted this article about Ron Glass' involvement in an org that helps kids prep for college. Maybe this would be good for Good Stuff: [link]

Fandom means never having to say "But where would I wear that?"

Timelies all!

Yay, Hec!

It has been raining on and off all day. Right now it is raining hard.

brillig

I have decided to start worrying about my car battery. That unsettling satisfaction with my life has now receded. Really, I found myself looking around going "Wasn't there something I needed to take care of? Some task that was dogging me? What have I forgotten to do?"

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

That's great - thanks, Sue!

See? I gave everybody here an opportunity to tell me what a bad person I am and nobody did, because I fuckin' rule.

meara-ing:

Yay proof of greatness! Boo mysterious leaks! Boo mysterious beeps! Boo gallstones! Boo sick shrift (also, if you feel up to going out to get food, you are pretty much exactly across Golden Gate Park from the Vietnamese hot and sour soup so healing I swear it could raise the dead, but unfortunately they don't deliver so you would have to drag your ass out there)! Continuing to vibe for sumi until informed otherwise!

I am convinced that HRC lost because I didn't wear Madame President on my nails that night.

I would be crushed if that were so, but OTOH our pundits could then stop wasting everyone's time tearing us all to shreds over our inability to adequately empathize with angry white men and urging us to stop talking so much about civil rights and race and gender and other things that prevent angry white men from voting for our team. Sorry, guys, turns out it was just Zen's nail polish, so you can all shut up now.

Come on, if you're going to go with that locution it's just mean to not include Son of Coul.

information libertarian

So there's this newish online magazine about classics edited by a PhD candidate from Princeton named Donna Zuckerberg. She wrote a forecful editorial about the co-option of classical imagery by the alt-right this week, and then today wrote about the backlash she got, and it suddenly dawned on me as I read the anti-semitic tweets she included that she is Mark Zuckerberg's sister. I am gobsmacked! It never occurred to me - I mean, surely there are a lot of Zuckerbergs!

It must be deeply weird to be Mark Zuckerberg's little sister.

Because books.

C. Cret Buffista (of Buffista Lane on Buffista Island) sent me a lovely Thanksgiving card, and it completely brightened my day. Thank you, C. Cret!

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

Hey, can you maybe ask her why I suddenly can't post or comment on FB? It's deeply weird.
