It's resonating with vague memories of people's fears about "Jacksonian democracy" and my general feeling that I thought I had come to grips with people not being basically good and decent but I apparently have not because I continue to be shocked every time another thing happens to teach me.
And not reading the comments is not a practical way to handle the next four years, I suppose.

Uhhg, surgery won't be until the 12th. Something about high risk of post-surgical pneumonia. Alrighty! That got my attention! So I'm rationally ok with the wait, but with no guarantees I'm going to feel any better until then and the prospects of traveling 10 days post-surgery (been assured it is fine, just no heavy lifting)...uuuuhhhhg.
But still no signs of gb infection, so that's good. May it stay that way, at least until I'm past this cold.
