Timelies all!
We are in San Francisco. Despite underestimating the amount of time we needed to get through Dulles (we got to our gate as boarding was going on, and didn't get breakfast) and dealing with a toddler who didn't want to play with his toys or nap, we survived.
The next week's temperatures are forecast to be below 90. The air is still a foul morass, but it's cooler.
Enjoy, Sheryl! I was thinking about trying to get to WorldCon this year since it's relatively conveniently located, but I think I am too tired to even look into it.
I grew up in New Orleans. I don't think we believe in straight lines.
Cardinal directions mean nothing to me anymore, since moving to New Orleans.
Bennet, I grew up in Cruces. E= the Organs. I also have no inate sense of cardinal direction. I do have Baltimore figured out, but it is based still on geography.

Oh, god no. I didn't learn to navigate by direction until...after college, I think.
Sarameg, I don't know about you, but even after all these years away from El Paso, I'm still much more comfortable navigating by mountains or other geographical landmarks. Even in new places, I want something I can see in the distance to work with.
Skip, skip, skip to my Lou, skip to my Lou, my darlin'.
My sense of direction is based on my position relative to Cleveland Hopkins International Airport and where the Rocky River lets into Lake Erie. Ergo, I am screwed anywhere but in the West Park neighborhood of Cleveland.
I'm good with cardinal directions as long as I know the time of day, and can see the sun. That's west, okay, N, E, S--that way.
I'm still surprised with how my neighborhood actually aligns with the compass.
