Days shrink and grow cold, sunlight through leaves is my song. Winter is long.

Yay, Dana and husband of Dana!

Y'alls, I can't say this anywhere else but: my friend is a Dance Mom. Relatively sane (not about her) but still. Niche thing, supportive, spends vacation & extra on comps & coaches & gear. I guess it's not that different than mountain biking & baseball that my nephews' parents do, but so much more sport politics than they entertain. And. Love her to pieces& daughter is the driver & genuinely talented (she placed in an event& has next prez of niche sport as her long distance Skype coach), but omg. I don't know what to do with this.

N is so much more than her 14 years on stage, performing. Like, I'll never have or want that presence on a stage & she owns it. And then she's the kid who has to be nagged to thoroughly wash her hair & brush her teeth& find her shoes.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

And then she's the kid who has to be nagged to thoroughly wash her hair & brush her teeth& find her shoes.

They're all that kid!

Having done the baseball thing with Emmett for umpty years and infinite expenses and travel - I'll note that the confidence that they get from that level of achievement at an early age really does build some sturdy ego architecture. Which helps as life inevitably sweeps the leg on you for some time after.

So...a bit of success (even in a niche) is one of the better things you can give to your kid.

All sorrows can be borne if you put them into a story. Tell me a story.

Today one of our facilities guys (let's call him Tino) came to my office asking for one of our crew guys. I had to explain that the guy who runs the light board isn't there when there isn't a show. Tino then asks who he can talk to about a lighting thing. I paused and said, "Well, I'm... the lighting supervisor..."

He had no idea. I wonder what he thought my job was.

I'm terrifically busy with my ennui.

My boss is so chipper this morning. Jesus Christ. She sounds like she's running at 1.5x speed.

'we all walk this earth feeling we are frauds. The trick is to be grateful and hope the caper doesn't end any time soon"

I'm hanging in the pre-op with Rosemary. Waiting is hard even if I'm not the one who is going to be opped.

Waiting in hospitals is the worst.

Oh, good, my coworker is feeling argumentative today. This meeting is going to be fun.
