Natter 75: More Than a Million Natters Served
Off-topic discussion. Wanna talk about corsets, duct tape, butt kicking, or physics? This is the place. Detailed discussion of any current-season TV must be whitefonted.
I expect people to be thrown by the extra m in my last name, but it's astonishing how many hear Matt as "Mac" or "Mark." (The last doesn't even have the same vowel sound—do they only listen to the first letter for every word?)
The few times there have been too many other Matts around and I've gone by Bob, it was almost a relief.
I sit 2 desks away from a Tanya and there's a Tara upstairs. We are always getting called by each other's names and getting each other's emails. Kind of a bond at this point.
Today's air is apparently only Moderate, which is a nice surprise, and the County Fire is 70% contained which is a huge improvement. Still would rather be in bed with the covers pulled up over my head.
We're on allegedly the last day of the heat wave, thank god. All my errands are finished for the day, so I am praising the gods of central air and eating salad. (I've been wanting to make peanut butter cookies for days, but don't want to turn on the oven. Tomorrow, maybe.)
I have laundry in the washer, and it is so damn humid out that I don't think I'm going to hang the line-dry stuff outside. I seriously doubt that it would dry. It can just go in the climate-controlled bedroom.
I almost forgot that there is a very tall block woman named Denise at work and I am a very short white woman named Nadine and people are constantly calking us the wrong name. We could be more different in personality or appearance except we both have large chests and have an n and a d in our names. We have even accidentally called each other our own name!
Okay hivemind I need more help with my wedding planning. I am in charge of wine and champagne. Kids are getting beer. In laws are getting food. Extra parents are hosting the whole dang thing and doing most of the decorating. Extra parents have known both kids their whole lives and their son is performing ceremony. B&T met at extra parents home. Nice to have a village.
Now that I am actually at the ordering stage I am considering having 3 chillable varieties of wine plus the champagne instead of having any room temperature red. The 3 would be in ice core dispensers with spigots, chillable red, pinot grigio for the white, and sangria with fruit slices. So three lighter chilled wines. Thing is I don't think warm wine is a good plan and anything not chilled will be warm at an outdoor event in Florida in July.
Then for the plastic wine glasses I have to decide on wine glass shaped, champagne flute shaped, or both.
What do you think? I can't see anyone getting pouty over not having a room temperature red. Food stuff is a barbeque type menu.
I don't drink wine, but I agree that I would want something cool at an outdoor event.

Red wine "cellar temperature" is 65F, max, so definitely support Chilling All The Things. If it's possible, take the red out of the chiller about 15 minutes early and it will be perfect.
Sounds like a good plan, Laura. If people want room temperature red they can let their glass warm up for a bit before drinking, right? It's nice to have both shapes of glasses, especially if you are doing a specific champagne toast.
I don't think you need a room-temperature red for an outdoor wedding in Florida in July. Unless you happen to know there will be a guest there who only drinks non-chilled red wine AND you want to accommodate that guest's preferences (otherwise, that guest can have iced tea/water/Coke and then have red wine when they get home and they'll live).
Then for the plastic wine glasses I have to decide on wine glass shaped, champagne flute shaped, or both.
Will there be a bartender, or is it self-serve? Because, honestly, if it's self-serve, I'd go with just the wine glasses. If you have both types and it's self-serve, it's entirely possible that people will ignore the champagne flutes.
If there's a bartender, then get both, because the bartender will know to put champagne in the flutes and wine in the wine glasses.
Planning on self serve, but there will likely be a young person manning the area to be helpful. I may get the flutes for the toast, which may be the only vino many people have.
Yeah, if they have to have room temp booze they can bring their flask with them.
