"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

People often pronounce "Fogelson" as "Ferguson," which who knows why.

It's that whole template thing, I'm telling ya! People just want to slot information into their expected categories.

We are Buffistas. This isn't our first apocalypse. -- Pix

Private fireworks are illegal here, but you wouldn't know it. The dog spent the last couple of hours lying on top of me while I watched Steven Universe on the laptop, and now she's hiding in the closet. At least she isn't crying.

I adore all you motherfuckers so much -- PMM.

Lisa and I flipped a coin on changing last names when we got married (almost 20 years ago, egads.)

I was almost a Collins. Easier to spell than my German/Danish monstrosity. But Lisa has never complained, bless her.

Librarian Warlord

My DH suggested that we both change our last name to his mother's maiden name (which she had not used since she was married) since that one actually meant something to him. I immediately suggested we change our last name to my mother's maiden name since that one would actually mean something to me. End of conversation, we kept the names we had. Daughter has my last name as her middle name.

Both DH and I use my mother's maiden name when making restaurant reservations or things like take out because it is Greene, and much easier than either of our last names.

I look more rad than Lutheranism

I stayed up until about 1:30 a.m. with the kitty because he was freaked out by all the illegal fireworks. And I am so damn tired now. He repaid me this morning by attacking my leg and trying to eat my oatmeal. He doesn't get the whole concept of gratitude.

My dad is the worst at this. There are so goddamn many words he mispronounces because they're similar to a word he already knows, and it drives me batshit crazy. For example, he has been taking Ambien for insomnia for years, and always pronounces it "ambience." Because he learned the word "ambience" first, and that's all his brain has room for in that word slot.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Maybe Nadine is more popular in other cultures?

I have known a couple of Caribbean Nadines, actually.

My favorite name thing, which I'm sure I've shared here before, is a woman who picked a last name out of her family tree when she wanted to get rid of her ex-husband's name but didn't want her birth name back. Eventually, her son changed his name to that, too! I feel bad for the genealogists of the future, though.

Also, I walked to work, as I normally do, and it was a HUGE MISTAKE. So, so sweaty. Even though it's "only" 84 right now, apparently.

Punishingly Intricate

Yeah, cooler here today but it's about a million percent humidity.

I must obey the inscrutable exhortations of my soul—Calvin and Hobbs

My last name is a weird spelling of a common word, so I always spell it out.

Unfortunately, my parking spot is half a mile from my office, so not walking is not an option. Boy, the AC feels good once I get here.

We had a storm go through here yesterday, so I was able to have the windows open overnight and air things out. Back up to the 90s today, though.

In my ongoing get-out-of-the-south job hunt, I ran across a position in Ontario. Which certainly qualifies. No idea how likely it is that they need an eLearning technologist badly enough to import one from another country. Maybe worth a shot? If any of our Canadianistas have done time in HR and would like to weigh in, that would be awesome.

I was just saying to a coworker, the upside of no (or inadequate) air-conditioning at home is that it makes going to to the office so appealing!
