Speaking of running and time, the current Jeopardy champ had a story about being the last finisher in a marathon, and I just respect that so much. This guy does not appear to have what you might think of as a runner's body, but he just kept going!

I am impressed with people who run or walk marathons, partly because of the physical achievement, but also because it does seem so damn boring to me to run or walk for that amount of time. I think I have a short attention span.
When it comes to marathons, I always think of ita saying that running for such a long amount of time would be so boring to her that she would have to start punching other runners just to make it more interesting.
And speaking of races, I have NEVER been as sore after a 5K as I am today. My feet hurt, my legs hurt, and my entire back hurts, shoulders to low back. I don't even know why I'm so exceptionally sore (except for my feet) -- I stretched after the race, I took a hot shower, I took ibuprofen, and I didn't do anything unusual during the race, like try to run part of it. I just walked the whole thing. And I've been walking 4-5 times a week since September, so I felt really ready for this 5K. I don't even know.
(My feet hurt because I wore the wrong socks and got blisters. I also probably need new shoes. I am a terrible 5K planner. Also, I really probably shouldn't have done the 5K with this plantar fasciitis in my right foot, but I'm stubborn.)
Few things are as annoying as when your sternum is out of joint. I must have slept curled up all wrong.
Ow.

Dang. That sounds painful.
Ouch! Steph and Connie!
Nice toe socks from a running store make a big difference for blisters. I get them too.
I was absolute last in the 1st marathon I did at Disney in Orlando. There were people behind me, but for the newspaper listing of official finishers I came in at 6 hours 59 minutes 34 seconds which was the last official finisher. They did continue to give medals to the people that were more than 7 hours. Good thing, because if you take 8 hours to do the thing you really need that medal more than ever.
I am having another fairly productive day. I swear having these kittens has put me back into a forced regiment that at first was a little overwhelming, but now has tapped into that old "do a lot of stuff" person I used to be. It supports my lat 2 therapists theories that my depression is mostly my current lifestyle and environment. I am more productive and active with things on my plate, too much free time and I will not self schedule for fun things, but a few required things (more than the basic, go to work, get kid to school) get me to be efficient with my time and trip something in my brain where I can see things to do and actually do them. Finding the balance is the key. I can handle more now than I could 7 years ago, even 5 years ago. Volunteering at the library and doing the fosters has helped, but this with the kittens was a level up. I don't want it all the time, but I can hopefully use it to my advantage these next few weeks.
So anyway:
fed kittens
showered
load of laundry in
went to church to pick up quilt things we had in a quilt show (1 of mine, 3 things from my mom who is out of town)
narrowly avoided stopping and shopping/wasting $$
spotted living room rug
vacuumed living room
got last load of laundry for the weekend out and drying
swept garage
identified 5 more largish things to try and sell on fb or craigslist
put things into storage bins that had been in living room
found last bins of summer clothes to bring in
took out 1 bin of winter clothes
piled up next bin of winter clothes to get out
Now I need to :
take pics and list the things for sale
label the storage bins
mop the kitchen/living room
file the next pile of papers in living room
and if that gets done:
hang up clothes in bedroom
fold laundry & put away
vacuum bedroom

Last year I wore "performance" socks (made of a synthetic fabric that wicks moisture away), and got the largest blister of my life on the ball of my foot under my big toe. So I figured this year I would wear the cotton socks that I normally wear to walk, since the performance socks didn't help. Nope, still got blisters, but in different spots.
I did some googling last night, and one of the suggestions runners give about avoiding blisters is to wear 2 pairs of socks, so the friction is between the socks, not between the sock and your foot. So I guess I'll try that next. Because I was thinking about another 5K on June 2, but I really don't want the blisters.
But also, my shoes might be a bit too big, which definitely causes friction, because the foot slips around in the shoe, so I really need to go back to the running store where they can properly fit me.
The only method that worked for me was to pretty much tape every toe and the heel and ball of feet with sports tape. Not tight, but covered. Also, I had double socks.
