I had a not at all productive day. CincoK in the morning

I'd argue that doing a 5K automatically makes your day productive.

I also did a 5K today -- the Flying Pig, which is super fun. It's a huge deal here, and they have events all weekend.

I have plantar fasciitis in my right foot but I was stubborn and did the 5K anyway, and now I'm paying for that. It may have been a poor choice to do it today. I'll have a better idea tomorrow. For now I'm just popping ibuprofen like they're M&Ms and icing my foot.

Because of the plantar fasciitis, I had no idea if I could finish in under an hour, but I squeaked in at 59 minutes, so I'm pretty proud of that.

Then I came home and was unable to nap, which is bullshit. So I read for a while, and then we had burgers for dinner because I really just wanted protein. That was a quality burger. And I seriously might go to bed soon, because I am old.

Mmm burgers. I hope the ibuprofen and ice helps. Yay Flying Pig!

Michelin, Michelin, huh, my autocorrect does not know Michelob. Interesting.

Yay $5 and getting rid of things you don't need or use!

You do a lot, Gud. Damn. Also, pancakes sound really good.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

replaced some brake pads on my daughter's car

[needle scratch!]

The Cutest Toddler In The World doesn't need a car or brakepads.

Also, nobody needs to be yelling at your about dinner, Gud.

Oxford Commas are total bullshit, so don't sweat that either.

Psyched about Laura's Cincy Buffista funtimes.

Enjoying Shrift's trolling of racist family members.

No fucks given about the Oxford comma!

I must obey the inscrutable exhortations of my soul—Calvin and Hobbs

I'm glad you had a great time in Cincy, Laura!

Confronting family about racism is so uncomfortable. It's so easy to just say, "They're old/stupid/FOX news watchers. They'll never change." But then they think everyone supports their racist BS and that it's ok. Go you, shrift, for pushing back against it!

Gud, it's super impressive (and a great money saver) that you can take care of your daughter's car's brakes. I can take care of some little things, like replacing a broken visor clip, but stuff like brakes gets outsourced.

Go racers and cleaners and sellers of un-needed things!

I did the grocery shopping yesterday, did some gardening, some laundry, and cleaned the bathroom. I also spent two hours ambling around the apartment complex with my cat, chatting with the neighbors and reading a book on my phone. It was so lovely out! And I got a little battery/USB powered fan, so I can sit outside comfortably a bit longer in the hot summer.

Today I'll be making lunches for the upcoming week, running the vacuum, and doing some more gardening. The last few days I've found myself naturally waking up half an hour before my usual workday time. I should probably take that opportunity to put in 20 or so minutes on the exercise bike instead of having an extra cup of coffee. Perfectly good exercise bike, not three feet from me right now.

Our wings are not tired.

I just picked up the trombone for the first time in weeks, and somehow I have not gotten better without trying?

A musician friend and I were discussing the possibility of DH picking up a trumpet again after several decades. He said he pitied the people who would have to listen to him acclimating to it again.

Mac seems hellbent on not even considering these options with dorms.

So I take it he is financially independent and will have his own apartment? Of course for me the idea of being in dorms always seemed great because I never did it. Brendon loved his time in the dorms. He had one Indian roommate who was a great cook so that helped.

I had no idea if I could finish in under an hour, but I squeaked in at 59 minutes, so I'm pretty proud of that.

Go Teppy and -t with the 5Ks! I didn't complete the last couple I did in less than an hour. Maybe some day.

It was such a delight! Home now and trying not to think about how much I have to catch up on for work. So good to see the Cincinnistas F2F. A reminder on how time flies. Buffista sprog are teens, and I could have sworn flea moved there fairly recently, and it was 6 years ago! I appreciated my peeps taking time out of their busy lives to meet and greet.

I know I am preaching to the choir here, but the part of my weekend trip that brought tears to my eyes is also a part that fuels the racism and immigrant hatred on the insane right. The young man I went to cheer graduating came here from Haiti as a teen, alone. His parents sent him here to stay with an aunt and attend high school here in Delray Beach. He lived in really appalling conditions, worked his ass off to learn an uncomfortable language, get great grades in school, and get a full ride scholarship to college. Yes, he had the advantage of a good mind, and athletic ability, but he worked incredibly hard. Living in crowded hot conditions, being hungry, and not knowing anyone. It makes me so angry that people don't understand that this is exactly what made this country great. Immigrants that come here leaving all they know to work hard for a better future. Now he has a computer science degree, and I know will have a great future. Except for the bigotry and hatred that he will still have to endure. I was proud to stand in for his parents since they couldn't be there.

Steps down from soap box. I know you understand, as did my cousins that we lunched with after graduation. They were happy to offer their congratulations and encouraging words too. I have to believe that the hate filled people that don't get it are a minority.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

You're a good egg, Laura.

Last week, I pulled hair out of my bathroom sink, today I pulled hair out of my vacuum cleaner. It still didn't work that well, so maybe it is really time for a new one?

Speaking of running and time, the current Jeopardy champ had a story about being the last finisher in a marathon, and I just respect that so much. This guy does not appear to have what you might think of as a runner's body, but he just kept going!

I am impressed with people who run or walk marathons, partly because of the physical achievement, but also because it does seem so damn boring to me to run or walk for that amount of time. I think I have a short attention span.

When it comes to marathons, I always think of ita saying that running for such a long amount of time would be so boring to her that she would have to start punching other runners just to make it more interesting.

And speaking of races, I have NEVER been as sore after a 5K as I am today. My feet hurt, my legs hurt, and my entire back hurts, shoulders to low back. I don't even know why I'm so exceptionally sore (except for my feet) -- I stretched after the race, I took a hot shower, I took ibuprofen, and I didn't do anything unusual during the race, like try to run part of it. I just walked the whole thing. And I've been walking 4-5 times a week since September, so I felt really ready for this 5K. I don't even know.

(My feet hurt because I wore the wrong socks and got blisters. I also probably need new shoes. I am a terrible 5K planner. Also, I really probably shouldn't have done the 5K with this plantar fasciitis in my right foot, but I'm stubborn.)
