re: Antiques Roadshow: It's sad when people get a high valuation for something they like and they say "Oh, no" and look horrified and talk about they couldn't possibly keep it now. Maybe some of it is security fears, but I get the impression that they don't think they're allowed to own something valuable, like it's above their station. It was a lovely thing that made them happy, but then it becomes something "too grand" for them. The appraisers are always so happy when someone nods firmly and says "I'm still going to wear it/use it/have it out."

I can only say this here: one of my old coworkers (FB friend) got married today, and she looks like a model, and I can never get over how regular and dumpy her friends are! Including her husband! It always makes me like her better, because I am shallow in an opposite way.
