Stupid slow internet at my sister's house. Annoying.

Well, I hope it's out of his system, the physical badness and the nonsense.

He is home for anyone concerned. he's opened the garage and is playing basketball in the driveway. I'll put his key back out in the mudroom and go take a shower and go to bed to give him space to come in when he wants. Maybe by the morning he can apologize.

You guys, I have so much time to actually do work this week -- a lot of people are out, so few meetings -- and I am just wasting and wasting all of my time! I have the whole afternoon free, so let's hope I can actually get my shit together.

I have a class and a meeting today and actual work to do and really would like to be sleeping all day instead. Why couldn't some of this work come at me yesterday when I was actively looking for things to do?

And I flailed this morning and missed my meds and breakfast, so cranky.

Ugh. I just got cc-ed on an email chain about an article that I edited in February. There was a problem with some hyperlinks, and my coordinator said "I'm not surprised that the problem was with the one freelancer who uses a Mac." And then the IT person on the email chain said "Tell her to not [technical thingamabob]."

Here's the problem: I don't even know HOW to [technical thingamabob], because (1) no one ever told me to do it, and (2) no one ever showed me HOW to do it (probably because no one ever told me to do it). And wow, I really hate when people fall back on the excuse of "Well, she uses a Mac, which is clearly a devil machine that destroys all it surveys." That's not how this works, you jackass. I've been editing for you for almost 5 years with this computer and this problem has never occurred before. Wouldn't you think I'd be fucking *every* article up if the problem was actually caused by my devil machine?

I didn't really know how to reply to that email chain, other than to say "Thanks for bringing this to my attention. I definitely don't want to introduce errors into the workflow, but I also don't even know how to do [technical thingamabob], so it doesn't seem likely that I did it. Could you explain the process to do [technical thingamabob] so I can troubleshoot and see if I did it accidentally?" [SPOILER: It's actually impossible to do [technical thingamabob] "accidentally". That's like saying "Oh, I was washing dishes and accidentally baked a cake!" It's impossible to get Result A when you're doing Action B. You have to do Action A to get Result A, and I was doing Action B.]

When I fuck something up, I do want to know, so I can fix it and avoid it in the future, but you can't just decide my devil machine did a thing that I don't even know how to do.

Ugh, Tep. Yeah, your response seems like the way to go. You definitely need clarification and they probably need to find the actual cause rather than assume it's your Mac.

Oh man, this happens to me ALL THE TIME. I have so many cakes and no clean plates to eat them on. It's a legitimate problem.
