If requiring a firearms license to own or purchase a firearm was politically viable, then I think there are things that could be done. Revoking or denying a license for domestic violence would be really helpful.

The problem is that literally nothing is politically viable, apparently.
I wish you all could take advantage of the glorious distraction that is the conversation on my local NextDoor site, started with a simple question: "Is fluoride bad?"

That's what I found so frustrating about the bump-stocks. We can't even outlaw something that exists solely to get around existing laws? It's not I think outlawing bump-stocks is going to save a bunch of lives, it's just such a low bar and even that is too much.

Oh noooooo.
Oh wow. My posts last night are almost incomprehensible. I must have been more out of it than I thought. I was having a terrible time with headaches and nosebleeds.
What I can do on a personal level is destroy the guns my father does not sell in order to get rid of a few guns in our country. I encourage anyone who has unused guns in their homes to destroy them or render them non-functional. raw-tools is a non profit that turns guns into tools. I can refuse to go to homes where guns are not secured, including family members.
Homes that keep guns unsecured should be prosecuted. States need to pass laws criminalizing unsecured guns in any home with children.
Background checks should be required at gunshows and personal gun transfers should have to be conducted through a licensed gun dealer who for a feee will do the background check, and yes that includes transfers within a family. Proof that you have passed a background check should be required just like a license. Licenses should have to be renewed on a regular basis.
There should be a national ban on assault style weapons PERIOD.
Gud--I thought you were posting on a small device without glasses. Not that I've ever done anything like that, nope.
Well, I didn't have on glasses. It was my biggest device though :)
I tangled with my NC General Assembly rep.
I even listed some of my ideas things like: licensing for all guns. Extensive background checks and waiting periods. Gun safety courses in order to get a license. Not an hour thing but extensive multi day ones. No private sales of guns where background checks can't be done.
I can't remember what else..oh banning anyone who has convictions of domestic abuse, child abuse or violent crimes from gun ownership. Also stiff penalties for those who let children get their guns and kill people lile a toddler accidentally shooting someone. It was pointed out that Nc has a law about minors and guns but it's a Class 1 misdeamoner with a max penalty of 120 days on jail and a fine.
He told me he respectfully disagrees.people should be able to protect themselves.
But what I proposed doesn't prevent that.
He is anti choice because he said he values kids lives but doesn't value life enough to change existing laws.
I couldn't sleep last nught between that, my teeth clenching and Penny accidentally escaping. Or mayve she just disappeared in the house . I saw her inside this morning after mom was up . I'm running on 2 hours of non consecutive sleep and have 3 more hours before I can go home .
I'm rambling and tired and I had a mini meltdown this morning.
Oh and one of the shooter' s family members said in an interview he was diagnosed with autism so many people in my FB groups are worried about what this will mean the backlash.
I would happily get a license for my gun--Utah, land of a weapon for every wardrobe choice--and I'd give it up if required. However, Cabela's, a gigantic sporting goods store, is having a 2nd Amendment sale this weekend, proudly advertised on the radio. I hate advertising and I'm so glad I didn't go into that field.
