"And that's why God Almighty gave us fire insurance and the public defender".

Congrats, Jess.

Americans, I have a question. How on earth does your VP (who is currently in my city) know where am I planning to be and block the traffic to that specific part of the city, on every day of his trip here? I am amazed at very fine details here and concerned that superpowers might be involved.

Our wings are not tired.

Sorry Shir, I am pretty sure Pence ingests scary looking insects he keeps in a box in the closet to stay that evil. Hoping for ascension some time this year.

Punishingly Intricate

I expected my MARC and metro trains to be empty today but they seemed to have the same number of people as usual. Weird

I think there are a lot of people who are furloughed who have to go in lisah to do "minimal activities as necessary to execute an orderly suspension of agency operations related to non-excepted activities."

But there were fewer cars on my commute!

I would like a furlough....but I feel super bad for folks that this will be super tough on their budgets. Even if you're pretty sure you'll get paid in the end, and there are contractors who won't. Awful.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Yeah, time off is all fun and games until you don't get a paycheck! Yikes.

Ann, that's a ferret.

Which is why I feel fortunate in having to work today. I work for an agency that isn't funded by tax appropriations, so we don't shut down at times like this. I don't get those days off, but I don't have to worry about getting my paycheck -- or about whether Congress will vote to pay me later for those days off.

mr. flea is at work today, and super-mad about it, because they reason they have funds to keep everyone at work is because the EPA administrator withheld funding from some projects. So he gets to go to work AND be mad at Scott Pruitt about it. Which is actually not that different from every day, for him. I told him to think of the housekeeping and food service staff who are getting paid today since he is at work.

I'm 34,335 in line to buy Hamilton tickets today. I already have one ticket, but the show is while I can't drive myself. I want another ticket so whoever drives me can see the show too. Wait time - over an hour.

For anyone impacted by the shutdown, may it end and have minimal pay consequences for you.
