I'm terrifically busy with my ennui.

Ha ha! Might not be altitude sickness! Might be the flu! Which would mean we're all exposed! And the flu shot is not especially effective this year! And MIL has a chronic lung condition!

Our wings are not tired.

Dang, well it could have been that contagious pregnancy stuff, to MIL's delight.

Your holiday is getting epic, Dana. Wow.

The artist formerly associated with cupcakes.

Ooof. I hope your holiday (well, "holiday") becomes less stressful really damn soon, Dana.

One of the reasons I don't drive is because when I was learning, when I was backing the car out of the driveway, I backed into a tree. Not very hard, but it freaked me out.

(The main reason I don't drive is that I've been sleep-deprived my entire life because of body clock issues, and I figured driving while the edges of my vision waver and sparkle is probably a bad idea.)

I am back from the wrecker yard getting things out of the car. The whole front headlight is in the backseat. We still need to have mac give his statement to the insurance. I hope the adjuster folks get out to see it today and get us a total soon.

oh jeez, I looked it up on Kelly Blue Book and trade in value is $980 - $1820. My deductible is $1000, so I could potential owe them or get nothing. Now I feel sick again.

Oh dear. Good luck with the valuation, msbelle.

FWIW, I have found that insurance did better than Blue Book trade-in value when I had to do that.

Not so nice is that I'm about to ruin a Friday morning for a bunch of people because of a series of unfortunate events and an upset foreign government. - shrift

msbelle, KBB may say $980 - $1820 but the insurer will deal with the actual cash value of the car (which is the price you would pay to buy the same year, make, model with similar mileage). Trade-in value is always lower than ACV. They will try and lowball you with the first offer. Counter them with the receipt for the new radio, and the maintenance records showing that regularly scheduled maintenance was performed promptly (if you have them.) Find similar cars in your area and show the adjuster how much it would cost to buy them. Your settlement should also include the taxes, tags and fees to get the new car on the road.

Worst case scenario, negotiate for your deductible so you net zero.

Excellent, Maria. I didn't even know you could counter offer. But the price they offered me seemed reasonable so I didn't look into it.
