I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

Officially a short day today, hooray! I plan to celebrate the solstice by working in the yard.

Our wings are not tired.

SuziQ, I am so sorry about the foot issues. It has been a few years now since I had foot surgery and remember well what a lot of no fun it was. I hope that your pile of projects can distract you from the discomfort.

Strix! Such a delight to read that update. Your contentment makes me smile. It was a long hard road.

I must obey the inscrutable exhortations of my soul—Calvin and Hobbs

That's great, Strix!

I'm sorry about the foot, SuziQ.

Love is stronger than death and harder than sorrow. Those who practice it are fierce like the light of stars traveling eons to pierce the night.

I hope you are able to manage the pain somehow until the surgery, Suzi. That sucks.

Strix, 2 years sober AND the kiddo loves your brownies? Fantastic achievements.

That's the pain / That cuts a straight line down through the heart / We call it love

Strix, that is all excellent to read! I'm so happy for you.

Rose has been wanting to celebrate the winter solstice, so I think this afternoon we'll take a walk around the neighborhood as the sun sets, then we'll light some candles at dinner tonight and maybe read a couple of stories from a collection of solstice-related folktales. I'm pretty excited about our plans!

Actual fire event in my building! We had a fire drill last week and everyone was grumbling about having to go out again, then the call of "This is not a drill!" went out. So the entire company tromped out into bitter cold wind. We were out there for an hour and a half while they tracked down smoke in the data center. They told us to get in our cars to get out of the wind. "I don't have my keys!" "Find someone who has keys! Make friends! Meet new people!"

I had to laugh cruelly at the tough guys who figured it wouldn't be a big deal and so went out without hteir coats. I enjoy hearing macho guys scream.

Twenty minutes in, rumor went around that we could go back in, but the alarm was still going off. "We don't have an all clear! Don't go back in!" "I'd rather burn than get frostbite!"

Congrats Noise and Pix!

Now that I am home I am thinking celebrating the day after Solstice by working in the yard might be more appropriate.

Yay on the new non-burned house! I would suggest adding a fire feature to celebrate the circumstances: [link]
