So it's my father's birthday today and I cried over breakfast, but hope to power through the rest of it. I kind of want to go to a friend's Blue Christmas service tonight, but it's far away in the burbs and kind of early to get there from work.

I wrapped up most of the work that had to happen before the holidays. There's one minor project I'll be working on today, but as I strongly suspect we're changing directions in a way that will make it irrelevant, I'm a little under-motivated. On the other hand, I've produced a buttload of cookies this week: chocolate-mint bark cookies, gingerbread, Bulgarian windowpane cookies (where you see some jam through a cut-out bit) with currant jelly, chocolate-dipped orange shortbread, and vanilla sandwich cookies with apricot jam. Today I'll make pecan puffs. Tonight and tomorrow people will be coming by and—I hope—eating them. The shortbread aside, there's a notable lack of chocolate. I don't think I'll be fixing that, though. Hmmmm—maybe I could dip half of the pecan puffs in chocolate . . .

In other news, I always think it's stupid in hiring (or any other context, really) when someone refers to a "diverse candidate." Because the person isn't diverse even if they are adding to the diversity of your team. Except my boss just hired someone whose first and last names suggest two very different ethnicities, so maybe she's the one! The diverse candidate!

Thanks y'all. I had a feeling that the problem was the same as I had with my left foot, but was really hoping I'd just need a cortisone shot or something simpler. Having it confirmed spun me and I didn't really ask for ideas to get from here to mid-Feb foot pain wise. I had asked about a cortisone shot now but he said if he did that he wouldn't operate for 3 months.
Le sigh. I slept like crap last night. I took today off to work on school work, 3 papers and 2 discussions due by midnight Sunday. If you see me here or on FB, hopefully I'm just taking a break after completing an assignment before diving into the next one.
