For the second year in a row, we got those pears from husband's aunt. I am not the biggest fan of pears, and they arrive right before we go out of town for a week or more.
So we ripened a few quickly, and the others are in the fridge, where they will hopefully keep for 10 days.

As for retirement, not until Mr. S is in college, or at least graduated from high school. It'll probably be later than that, given I'm a federal employee and may not have much of a pension when the Republicans are done with it.
They are having a surprise retirement party for a Senior VP right now. In fact, someone just popped out and offered to watch the front desk so I could go in for a bit and fix myself a plate. I suppose I could have hung out but I haven't actually met the guy who is retiring before so I felt totally awkward and just scurried out with my food.
Good news and more good news, I got a good report on Gizmo's recovery this evening during my visit, AND one of the vet techs is thinking about taking him in now that he's moved into a new apartment. That would be pretty much ideal in terms of placement, a home with someone who takes care of animals for a living.
