Reminds me of an observation I made at a science fiction convention about SF concerning political futures, that some of the people writing it not only hadn't held political office or even participated in a village meeting.

I live two towns over from Chappaqua and keep thinking I should go over and shop in their farmer's market just in case I run into her, like that woman from the Mashable post.

I can only imagine how many people are now walking in those woods!

Also it's great spending time in a liberal neighborhood

I'm so fucking lucky to live where I do. We had dinner last night with our BFFs and just raged about the election and didn't have to worry for a second that we were in a crowded restaurant.

And then I think, that's a whole extra layer of privilege I've got going on.

The community thing is solid. State Department has been increasingly convinced that the key unit of government is the city, not the state, and that that will become more and more the case.

That does give me some hope, because my increasingly blue conservative city just elected a good handful of Democrats to local positions, and we passed the important social services levies.

I dunno, I don't think we know what voters will be buying in four years. I think the important thing is to run someone who can connect with people and get them excited. Trump got fewer votes than Romney and Hillary got far fewer voters than Obama. The big winner was apathy.

As far as the DNC goes, who cares? Obama basically ignored them and ran one of the greatest campaigns in history. The RNC fell off it's skis early on and just got dragged behind the Trump boat the rest of the way.

In between me and the Clintons' house in Chappaqua is the Trump National Golf Club. I can't help but feel it's some kind of horrible metaphor.

Shit. The jury in the police stop murder trial couldn't come to a unanimous decision after 25 hours of deliberations over 4 days and the judge declared a mistrial.

This is another situation where the officer* was wearing a body cam. It was all recorded. The murder victim was unarmed and nonviolent, sitting in his car.

So now the county prosecutor can file new charges for another trial, or drop the charges. The one good thing about this whole situation is that the county prosecutor has been PISSED about this murder from the day it happened, and I don't think he'll drop the charges.

*(Not a city police officer; a University of Cincinnati officer who stopped Sam Dubose for a broken taillight.)

This is bullshit, and after the election results, I hope there aren't riots. I wouldn't count on it, though.

Cities may be a way to get involved, but state houses need to be turned blue or at least purple. Here in Texas there is an issue even getting enough candidates to run for open county and state positions. So many republicans go unopposed. Red state dem parties need support.

I have this whole fantasy about progressive companies building offices and plants and distribution centers in economically needy old industrial areas and starting some recovery there. Then following that refugee placement agencies focusing on the rural areas close to blue cities.

Yes, this. If I understand correctly, the more state houses Republicans control, the more they can gerrymander and maintain GOP control of Congress despite Democrats actually getting more votes overall. Not to mention that it's state legislatures passing these god-awful voter ID laws and cutting back on early polling places.

Also, we need more Dem governors. If nothing else, a governor can run for president as a "Washington outsider" while still having enough experience to do the job once they get inside...
