Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Wait, this was a recent thing? I assumed the accounts about Bush Sr. were coming from back when such things were more accepted.

Ha.

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

Huh. The Saints are leading the NFC South. I somehow had no idea. Pleasant surprise, I guess.

this mess was yours / now your mess is mine

I'm pretty excited because I actually got my shit together in a timely manner to have this artist [link] draw a portrait of Kato, which will be Tim's Christmas gift. Since the artist requires a certain amount of lead time, I knew I couldn't just email her at the beginning of December and hope to get it on time, so I put ASSCAPS reminders all over my calendar throughout October, and I actually followed through and got in touch with her. Go me!

"Faded like the lilac, he thought."

Yeah, no, I get both where everyone is coming from, but also where meara is coming from. I definitely move in some circles that are touchier/feelier than most, and there definitely has been friendly and socially acceptable without explicit consent ass grabbing in those contexts. Hmm.

I haven't trusted science since I saw the film "Flubber."

Well, I think "friendly" is one key word -- these are not women that GHWB knew. They were just taking pictures with him and his wife.

Totally, Dana. And Jesse, I think I'd be right there with you (maybe depending on if it was a pat vs a grab?) and also feeling a little ew but mostly whatever about t? And maybe that IS sad, that we just accept as routine things that really shouldn't happen!

That's my point about the dirty old man trope -- it's not cute!

Which is a different thing from running in touchy-feely circles.

brillig

There was an old man at our church when I was young that all the girls seemed to instinctively know not to be alone with. I never got a sense that he was leering or had designs on me, he was just an old man who thought young girls were wonderful and liked to hug them. It may even have been misplaced fatherliness (he often spoke of his own daughters). But I was horrendously naive, so maybe I didn't realize. Still, I saw lots of girls spot him coming around a corner and abruptly decide they wanted to be somewhere else. I felt sorry for him, more than anything, but I still didn't want to be his daughter substitute.

Way to go, Tep, that is awesome!
