"Faded like the lilac, he thought."

Yeah, no, I get both where everyone is coming from, but also where meara is coming from. I definitely move in some circles that are touchier/feelier than most, and there definitely has been friendly and socially acceptable without explicit consent ass grabbing in those contexts. Hmm.

I haven't trusted science since I saw the film "Flubber."

Well, I think "friendly" is one key word -- these are not women that GHWB knew. They were just taking pictures with him and his wife.

Totally, Dana. And Jesse, I think I'd be right there with you (maybe depending on if it was a pat vs a grab?) and also feeling a little ew but mostly whatever about t? And maybe that IS sad, that we just accept as routine things that really shouldn't happen!

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

And maybe that IS sad, that we just accept as routine things that really shouldn't happen!

That's my point about the dirty old man trope -- it's not cute!

Which is a different thing from running in touchy-feely circles.

brillig

There was an old man at our church when I was young that all the girls seemed to instinctively know not to be alone with. I never got a sense that he was leering or had designs on me, he was just an old man who thought young girls were wonderful and liked to hug them. It may even have been misplaced fatherliness (he often spoke of his own daughters). But I was horrendously naive, so maybe I didn't realize. Still, I saw lots of girls spot him coming around a corner and abruptly decide they wanted to be somewhere else. I felt sorry for him, more than anything, but I still didn't want to be his daughter substitute.

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

Way to go, Tep, that is awesome!

Fandom means never having to say "But where would I wear that?"

Timelies all!

I got an e-mail a few weeks ago from my bank saying there were possibly security issues, so they're sending a new card. Received the card, and promptly forgot that if I didn't activate the new card by the 24th, the old card would be automatically deactivated. Until I got an e-mail from Comixology saying my payment wouldn't go through. I use Paypal for that, which is linked to my debit card.

D'oh!

Because books.

That's going to be such a lovely gift, Tep.

Seriously awesome gift, wow.

Roofers finished and left no signs they'd been here except new coated roof and downspout, paid the bill and got $14.45 free money towards my principle. And the roofer uses Square! Which totally surprised me given his crusty old school appearance (and experience with so many others in trade of his age...some squint funny at checks, still.) Not fair of me, but now I know. And on customer service alone, I'll use them again. Now just the matter of a few heavy rains to see if their solution worked. And I have a verbal promise if it gives trouble, in addition to the 3 mo covered in contract.

Cats are sleeping off their hypervigilance; they just wouldn't settle today. Pumpkin supervised them on the front porch from my bedroom door, base of tail lightly bushed. Loki wandered a lot. Now, he's under the covers in the v of my legs, P on the outside of my knee.

Glad to hear the roofing experience has been positive so far!

I'll be reporting to the Hall of Justice for jury selection tomorrow. On the bright side, it's a shorter commute than going to work and doesn't start until 9:30. Guess I'd better make sure I've got plenty to read on ye olde kindle.
