You're talking to Serenity. And, Early... Serenity is very unhappy.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Yay, Buddy! Does he need a buddy?

That seems pretty unlikely from the way he hissed at the spot where another cat had been in the shelter!

We are Buffistas. This isn't our first apocalypse. -- Pix

The air in downtown Oakland was just awful this afternoon, and the smoke/haze was so thick I couldn't even see the cranes at the Port just a mile away (my office is on the 7th floor). But then it cleared a bit, and it was much better on the bus home. But I'm still keeping the windows closed tonight.

I'm worried about Sonoma County tonight: the wind is supposed to pick up again. My sister's in-laws are staying at her house, but without any possessions or their car -- just their bird and some toiletries they picked up at CVS.

It's all so scary and stressful.

-t, do stay safe! Do you have a go-bag packed?

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

Buddy is his own buddy.

Ok, I know I said I was gonna pack up the car tonight but I just got home and I am tired. New plan is to say "fuck it" to working tomorrow morning and just go ahead a leave then. It occurred to me in my journey home that my house is only in danger if the fire jumps the interstate, and if that happens it is going to be damned difficult to get anywhere. Fleeing down HWY 12 with half of Fairfield sounds like a nightmare scenario.

For now I'm gonna get some rest and check for news.

Sorry to keep dumping all this on y'all, but you're a giant component of my support network and so easy to reach.

Just be safe, -t.

When I leave the office every night, I like to sit on the bench outside and decompress before getting in the car. There's the magnificent view out over the lake, and I love watching the planes heading in towards Salt Lake.

Tonight there were two planes flying a patrol loop over the giant NSA processing center on the other side of the freeway. Two planes, on each end of a big circle. I'm hoping I just haven't noticed them because I wouldn't have seen the lights before it got dark in the evening, but I think I'm fibbing to myself. I'm remembering a story Hubby told me of his days as a Navy brat, heading to the nearby base to watch a movie and find the gates locked and the guards not talking. He went home, knowing he'd never find out what the lockdown was for.

Hey, we are totally here to hear it or watch you process it out or whatever. I just hope it all ends up well. :(

Had my new roommate (who is moving in at the end of the month) come over tonight for a bit and got her a code for the door and showed her where stuff is and discussed living styles a bit more. Hoping it'll be good--I'll be gone for two weeks (in Japan!) right after she moves in, so she'll get a chance to settle in, hopefully.

Then friends came over and we had dinner and watched Great British Bake Off. But we are sad because one friend seems to be really reprioritizing us now that she's in a relationship and it makes us sad and pisses us off.

The status is NOT quo.

What meara said. Hoping for the best for you! It's a horrific situation.

Herding cats for fun

Why not think of fire related posts as newsworthy, not venting? Inquiring minds need to know, after all.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Finally get home and my eyes are still itchy and watery.

Yeah, me too! Tears streaming at times.

Anxiously pinging Emmett every couple hours to see what the status is.

All sorrows can be borne if you put them into a story. Tell me a story.

-t, we want to know how you're doing so don't consider it dumping so much as just keeping us updated.
