Ben: I didn't ask for any of this. I just want to be normal. Gronx: I wanted to be an underwear model. We play the hand we're dealt.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

I'm so sorry for your niece, Consuela. Relatedly, my mother thinks my father is declining, and one of my first thoughts was, "He better not die over Christmas." So, um, if anyone has control over that kind of thing?

Coding and Sleeping

Gads, the news from Vegas is just horrible. Sounds like it was just the one guy that did all that.

Because books.

What the hell, world? Fifty people dead? I'm sitting here speechless.

Our wings are not tired.

I just sit here and think of the countless loved ones whose lives are changed forever because of a lunatic with automatic weapons. So horrifying.

Exactly. Plus the fact that *this* is terrorism. And we're apparently not only breeding them but happily arming them.

this mess was yours / now your mess is mine

I've seen people already (of course) saying "this isn't terrorism", and I assume that it's because the shooter is white.

What is a mass shooting, if not an act of terrorism? Why can't we call it what it is?

Racism is why.

I'm horrified that one person can do that much damage. Could that possibly be the thing that gets people to start limiting the amount of ammo etc. people can own for no reason?

And weapons that can be fired from such a distance -- he was on the 32nd floor, for fuck's sake.

Maybe what we need is constant protests and marches outside NRA headquarters. At least to start?

Nope. If schoolchildren being killed in the Sandy Hook shooting didn't lead to any measure of gun control, there is literally nothing that will. Because politicians are bought by the NRA, and they value guns more than they value human life.

and they value guns more than they value human life.

And this is why I have no regrets removing my gun loving relatives and friends from FB. I don't want to hear their excuses and justifications. My chest is tight with sorrow. I should turn off the TV, and yet.

In much more amusing news, it was 30 here overnight and still in the 30s now at 9:30. DH just called me from the road to announce that he discovered that the steering wheel and seat heating features of his truck work like a charm. He had never used them before!
