But that was through OHSU, Providence required no such down payment on abdominal surgery...but by then my out of pocket max was already hit so maybe they woulda wanted one also if I hadn't already been tapped out.

I had to put down a $600 deposit before orthapedic surgery in 2014 :/ And of course only had, like, 200 and change left on my flex spending card and had to use 2 cards to pay it.
Ouch! We've still got room on our Flex card to cover it, but I'd never heard of anyone doing this before today. The lack of more than 18 hours notice was kind of off-putting as well.
