I always thought the name Serenity had a vaguely funereal sound to it.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

I saw a real-life "Squirrel!" moment on the way to work this morning. The dog was totally doing its own thing and then suddenly FREAKED OUT and tried to go running after the squirrel. It even kind of looked like the dog from Up. (Which I have never actually seen.)

I haven't trusted science since I saw the film "Flubber."

We are at Dragoncon. Someone just knocked on the door, even though the Do Not Disturb sign is out. I figured it was one of our friends.

It was a woman I've never seen before, very put together (not wearing a geeky t-shirt or wings or whatever), who said she was looking for her mother. The queen of England.

She was really lucky we were already awake.

Punishingly Intricate

She thought her mother is the Queen of England?

Not a clue. I was waiting for her to laugh, like it was some strange joke, but she did not.

Since this is Dragoncon, it's possible her mother is in costume as the Queen. Any Queen of England.

information libertarian

We have a regular patron at the library who once had an audible conversation with herself in which she asserted that her mother is the Queen of England. The patron is a middle-aged black woman.

Librarian Warlord

We had a library patron in Berkeley who told us (repeatedly) that he was Lord Mountbatten's grandson. We started asking who his mother was.

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

I would have a hard time reacting to that first thing in the morning.

Eeeeeeee my phone says my sword has been delivered. I think I will need to run home on my lunch break to see it.

We really couldn't react, beyond confused faces. Fortunately, she has not been back.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

So in my paranoia I had pretty much given up on the Kansas City job, because my contact told me on Monday she'd get back to me in an hour to let me know if they were going to give me an offer and I hadn't gotten an answer to that question.

Until now. She called me to let me know they're going to give me an offer soon. I'm supposed to start on 9/18 so I have 2 1/2 weeks to find an apartment and move. Which I think is doable.

I'm mostly in a state of shock. I'd been depressed these last few days when I thought I wouldn't get the job--I figured they offered it to someone else and they were waiting for that person to accept before telling me I didn't get it.
