If I may, from Tumblr,
A message from George Takei:
I am addressing this to all who voted to defeat Donald Trump and what he represents. We may not have prevailed, but we must not despair.
Many of you are, like me, in a state of shock. This does not feel like the America you love and honor. We are in uncharted waters. In times like these we must reaffirm the values we cherish and have fought for: equality, justice, the care of the planet. We must stand up defiantly to any dark or devisive acts, and look out for the most vulnerable among us. It is more important than ever.
Within our hearts we know the society we wish to live in. No one can take that vision from us. We are each of us keepers of that promise. This country has seen wars and grave injustices, slavery and even civil war in its past. Yet we found our way through.
Hold your loved ones close. Tell them that it is in times of sadness and in the toughest of days where we often find our true mettle.
Also from Tumblr: Do not be daunted by the enormity of the world's grief. Do justly, now. Love mercy, now. Walk
humbly, now. You are not obligated to complete the work, but neither are you free to abandon it.
Or to quote U.S. Grant: "Retreat? No. I propose to attack at daylight and whip them."
Pence seems less likely to get us into a global war, I guess? Small comfort.
That's Trump's arena. Pence will focus on The Handmaid's Tale.
Takei... Takei I can listen to.
Or to quote U.S. Grant: "Retreat? No. I propose to attack at daylight and whip them."
I'm kind of in this camp now.
Her message to the little girls has me sobbing.
Yup. That was when I lost it, too. I made Luna listen.
FB is just making me depressed because I'm only using the crying icon.
I literally just used that over and over and over until I just couldn't take it anymore and closed FB.
Thanks for all the suggestions for the playlist. I'll post a link when we finish.
Just read her concession speech, and now I'm having a hard time not breaking down sobbing at work.
I hate to say it, but I'd rather swallow the horror of Pence than the horror of a nuclear war. It's like Death is Not an Option, only in this case, it is.
"Donnie, Donnie, but see the thing is, if you break your shiny toy, there aren't any more toys. Or a toybox. Or a toy store. Take a deep breath, back away from the big red button. Here go break some brown people's lives, instead. That'll be fun, right?"
