"And that's why God Almighty gave us fire insurance and the public defender".

My condolences, Steph. It is heartbreaking.

I must obey the inscrutable exhortations of my soul—Calvin and Hobbs

Last night I tried a recipe for salisbury steak. I'd only ever had it in tv dinners before. The homemade version is a bit more bother than a tv dinner, but considerably tastier. [link]

Fandom means never having to say "But where would I wear that?"

Timelies all!

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Hung out with an old friend and her family last night, and what is better than holding hands with a two year old??

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

So Salisbury steak is like ketleti with gravy? I never knew that.

I did nothing all day yesterday and it was wonderful but I really can't do that again today.

Our wings are not tired.

Yesterday was family cookout at my nephew's house. His mother was there. I think this might have been the first time I had seen her in 45 years. This nephew was born when my brother was 17. He was super upset with my mother because she wouldn't sign for him to get married at the time, but her argument was that if he still wanted to marry at 18 there would be nothing stopping him. Yeah, the relationship didn't last. In recent decades they have been friendly and she was perfectly friendly to me after all these years. It was a lovely day under a canopy of large shade trees. Not that shade was really needed since I don't think it got to 70, but very pleasant and relaxing.

"...and then Legolas and the Hulk destroy the entire Greek army." - Penny Arcade

So now what's left of the storm is just sitting there in South Texas. I look out my window and it's just a regular overcast day, but Houston is projected to get another 20 inches of rain over the next week. Good grief.

Mm, I remember storms that just sat half on shore picking up water over the gulf and dumping it onto land. Lotta rain.

Man, I feel like I am right on the edge of some Lit Crit insight involving Gone Girl, miss Marple, Discworld, Sherlock Holmes, and the appeal of the Southern With a Heart of Gold. Time for dance rehearsal, though, so it will probably slip away. Alas.

That took me to a sign-in page, but I am Very Interested!

Ate too much at the big family shindig, but yet still want to eat now?
