Sometimes I think I might just move up to Vermont, open a bookstore or a vegan restaurant. Adam Schlesinger, z''l

I shared the statement on Facebook, because I believe in the message, but I'm still wincing at the grammar.

I bought eclipse glasses several weeks ago and now I'm very glad I did, since I've seen several people posting on FB wondering where they can still get some!

Still really hoping that despite the already-hyped traffic in Oregon I'll make it to the totality. We'll see. Taking the train down tomorrow night, but the plan is to take a bus back on Monday night (I nixed the 2pm bus, much as I'd prefer to be on it, because god knows if we'd be able to make it TO the bus--we're taking a 6pm bus instead, but I still worry about making it there...and more importantly, how long that bus might be stuck in traffic trying to get home!!

OK, help me out here sarameg, you are the expert here. I've been trying to figure out how worth it it is to try to get the last 15 miles to totality, on Monday. I'll be staying near Portland, and am scared of the traffic reports, and supposedly it's 99.5% coverage where I'll be. But I just read something that said the difference between 99% and 100% coverage is TEN THOUSAND TIMES DARKER. Which...damn. Makes 99 sound boring. Should I risk getting stuck in traffic? (I"m fine seeing it from the side of the road, and would pack snacks and water and gas, but...)

Bother. I do believe the motherboard in my computer is starting to go. I'm getting errors on all three hard drives and things are starting to crash a lot.

Well, that sucks, Gud. I guess it's good that you could swap out the hard drives and not lose data, but it'll be a nuisance to deal with.

One of my coworkers ordered a 20-lot of eclipse glasses on Amazon for her 4-person family and shared the extras around the office. I got a pair from her. I'm sure that Monday everyone will be out in the quad trying to get good sight-lines. Things are looking up for the local forecast, too.

And hey, eclipses foretell the fall of rulers, so we can be hopeful on that front, too.

Well, I'd been thinking of upgrading my computer anyhow. One of the reasons I was thinking about it was some odd instability issues, so I kinda knew it was coming. I do a daily backup so data loss isn't much of an issue. Important stuff gets backed up immediately.

That reminds me that I need to write my congressperson and demand the impeachment of Trump. It won't do any good, but, you know, the damage he's doing is getting so damn big.
