Natter 75: More Than a Million Natters Served
Off-topic discussion. Wanna talk about corsets, duct tape, butt kicking, or physics? This is the place. Detailed discussion of any current-season TV must be whitefonted.
So I really like this thing where I go to a tiny kinda warm restaurant in Upper Fells( counter seating, maybe 8 stools) and chat with the proprietress about this, that & the other & how we love Baltimore, let the Spanish chatter wash over me as Mexican radio plays, try to follow her dad's gentle teasing in Spanish, watch all sorts of Baltimore come in, make recommendations to those not sure of what to expect and eat really fucking good simple Mexican street food. Pollo & mushroom & Oaxacan cheese & salsa & lime sope (which are like a thick corn masa tart base, crisp on the bottom, soft atop) & a chorizo & nopales taco. I am still full 10 hrs later & they aren't huge! And I got a smoked pork & ham torta to go that will be 4 lunches, easily.
She said business has been steady & a lot of local businesses also patronize her (it's a latinx neighborhood) but she's also really pleased with how many folks are coming from word of mouth/social media. And coming back. It's just so.. I mean, it feels like a home I left and yet we both started finishing each other's sentences about the thing we love about this chosen home.
I just spent the better part of the last 30 hours trying to sleep off a migraine. I still have the not-quite-dizzy-sorta-fuzzy feeling, but I was at least able to call my dad for Father's Day without having to search for words. I may be up for a while tonight though. Luckily I don't have to be in early tomorrow.
ION, I bought a Bob Ross wig for our lighting designer (because he's painting happy little clouds onto the set) and now my sidebar ads are ridiculous.
Good job, Mac, talking to other humans!
sarameg, that does sound like an easy homelike enjoyable place.
aurelia, I hope you get to feeling better soon.
As for me, I was so tired when I left work a little while ago that I looked in my tote bag, said, "Oh, I must have left my purse in the kitchen," and started to go back for it. The overnight staff person gave me a weird look and said, "You don't have your purse? That isn't your purse?" and gestured to my shoulder, where it was hanging.
Success: made it on the train from Prague to Vienna, and to the hotel, which seems great.
I have been really enjoying the pictures on FB. I hope your body has been cooperative. Recovering and traveling can be unmixy things.
I'm gonna go to Cocina Luchadoras and get tacos and sopas and agua fresca and tortas to go tomorrow morning. And maybe horchata.
That place sounds so comfy and welcoming.
THE CHILD SPOKE WITH PEOPLE AND ENGAGED!!!!
NICE!!
{{aurelia}} I hope today is a much better day.
Working on packing for my trip north. I cleaned out my car as a first step. I'm bringing a bunch of books because I generally get to read more in Otter Lake, as do visitors. It looks like I am traveling alone so I will have more room in the car for stuff. Well, almost alone. Zoe will be with me, and maybe my sister for the first day only.
*looks at forecast* Hmm, I'm thinking the odds I'm swimming tonight are slim & the odds I'm mopping up after leaks are high.
I am feeling better. And as expected, I was up until 5:30. Hopefully that just means I get to bed at a reasonable hour tonight.
Glad you feel better aurelia.
I support Jesse making walking tours her thing.
Well, at least the NBC Megyn Kelly thing tanked in the ratings. [link] Maybe they will think twice about giving scum a platform.
Ok...people...I'm freaking out. I just talked with my project manager in California. The contract I've been working on with her, providing support, is being split into three pieces and was put out to bid, so if we want to keep it, we have to submit our bids for each piece. One piece is about $8M over 2 years. The person who would run the technical side has no project management experience and the PM I've been working with is too senior and is also ready to move on to her next thing. So they would like to put me in as PM if we win the work. Me. I haven't been the PM on anything. The folks who are throwing my name around have worked with me and know my skill level and each one of them has given the go ahead but today is the first I'm hearing about this.
On one hand, dang, that is a lot of responsibility and I feel amazing that the project delivery team has that much faith in me. But on the other hand, I'm not quite sure that is the direction I want to go, career-wise. I mean, yes, I'm getting my Masters in Project Management, but that was more to enhance my current Project Controls skill set. I...I'm just flipping out a bit. This wasn't anything I considered and if I did go this direction, starting with an $8M contract?!?!?!?
