I always thought the name Serenity had a vaguely funereal sound to it.

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

SiL update, because I have to tell someone and I sure as hell don't want to bring it up at work: she was out on bail but violated the conditions of her bond agreement and is back in jail. I am hoping she can maybe dry out and stay out of trouble while she's in, but who knows. Gah. My poor brother, but at least he is in a better place geographically and has a job and a bit of a support network. Her parents, man, I can't even imagine, that must be awful.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

I had my afternoon coffee and am ready to take on the next two hours!! Man, everything is kind of a cluster here because our fiscal year ends 6/30.

"There are few hours in life more agreeable than the hour dedicated to the ceremony known as afternoon tea."

Ugh, -t what a horrible situation. I'm sorry.

Energy~ma to everyone who needs it.

Love is stronger than death and harder than sorrow. Those who practice it are fierce like the light of stars traveling eons to pierce the night.

-t, I don't know what to say. What a difficult situation for everyone.

Life moves pretty fast. You don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.

I'm so sorry, -t. Been through that with my brother and I remember the furious helplessness very well.

Honestly, I forget it's happening most of the time, it is just too big to think about very much.

Hey, my office is closing 7/3, but not giving us a paid holiday. Mixed feelings - I'm running pretty close to the edge with my vacation time this year to be forced to use some up outside my plan, but 4-day weekend is always nice.

"I remember when they eventually introduced that drug kingpin who murdered people and smuggled drugs inside snakes and I was like 'Finally. A normal person.'” —RahvinDragand

Wait, they're closing the office but forcing everyone to use up one of their own leave days? WTF?

Because books.

The owner of the bakery where I work closes for two weeks in July and two weeks in January. That's a full month out of the year I don't get a paycheck. Since it's been two years now, I'm going to negotiate how to change my pay structure, because those months always panic me.

Hourly employees can use PTO or not get paid, salaried have to use PTO, is what we are told. Does not seem right to me, but not enough for me to do anything about it, probably. If I run out of vacation time, I'm not gonna not take the time off I already have planned, I'll find out what happens at that point.
