Timelies all!

Good luck to your son, Laura.

brillig

Several nearby mountain ranges have between 300-500% of the typical snow pack for this time of year. Temperatures will be in the 80s for the next few days. Surf's up!

I haven't trusted science since I saw the film "Flubber."

Why am I having especially deep angst? Is that a side effect of surgery?

this mess was yours / now your mess is mine

I think (though I'm not positive) that's pretty normal after surgery. I've heard it attributed to the anesthesia leaving your system, though I honestly don't know what the timeline is on that. It seems like it would be gone by now.

I know you weren't taking percocet very long, so I doubt it's withdrawal, but stopping opioids can mess with your mood.

Basically, you just went through a big ol' surgery. There may be emotional fallout. Go with it, and be kind to yourself.

Although this is only limited comfort right now, as I cry over the new picture of General Leia. Goddamn you, Annie Leibovitz and Tumblr.

meara, Harlots is on Hulu. It is about women working as prostitutes in 18th century London. It's surprisingly good. Written, Directed and Produced by women. I heard it has an all female crew too, but I don't know for sure. Samantha Morton is so compelling in it.

The current bureaucratic system punishes the teacher for a failing kid so they will pass one way or another.

Yes. Hence me.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

Amy, do you know Budget Bytes? I mostly rely on her for slow-cooker and one-skillet meals, and have yet to be disappointed.

My other current cheap/easy food obsession is sweet potatoes with stuff on top. I've done roast herby chickpeas with tahini, tofu and bok choy with teriyaki, burrito bowls - so far I haven't come across any potential rice/pasta accompaniment that doesn't work equally well on a sweet potato.

I had a lot of unprovoked anxiety dreams and general anxiety after my surgery. A couple weeks, at least. Some was enforced inactivity once the pain was mild, but some...I baked a lot of cookies and walked a lot.

Bit the bullet and bought a 10k btu casement window unit for upstairs. Been saying I'd do so for a while, but finally found one I could pick up locally for less, which is less hassle. They're about $150 more than usual ac of same btu, but will hopefully be a game changer. Most powerful standard unit that fits in that window is 5k, no automation. This will match my bedroom unit, which basically had to cool off my whole house last year.

We just turned on the AC for the first time this year. I cleaned out the filters before and it was disturbing.
