I liked ET at the time, because blatant emotional manipulation really worked on me. But I rewatched it a few years ago, and while some fictional emotional manipulation still works on me, ET is now on my list of "Ew, can we not?" movies.
though it's possible I liked the novelization better.
Oh, I know I liked the novelization better. IIRC, I tended to like the movie novelizations for Spielberg movies better than the movies, except for Raiders of the Lost Ark.
Out of nowhere, CJ just said he never liked ET.

I finally got my butt to the theater tonight to see Dunkirk before it left the screen. Very powerful, it felt like going through a wringer. I would imagine that it will at least walk away with Sound Mixing and Sound Editing awards regardless of what gets released late in the year, and it will take a lot to overcome it for Cinematography as well.
Dang, Rami Malek doesn't even look like Rami-Malek-as-Freddie-Mercury. That's a hell of a transformation.
In other "movies that make you slightly uncomfortable but are unique visions with great lead performances" news, Good Time is this week's Ingrid Goes West. It's a shame so few people will actually see these movies.
Anyway, Good Time had an 80s-Michael Mann vibe, which was more than the music I think (which was very 80s Michael Mann). Robert Pattinson completely disappears into the lead role. I didn't always love the cinematography but it worked well for what they were doing.
I have no idea why I never watched the original 1999 version of The Mummy, but we watched it tonight, and it was a DELIGHT.

I can't really call that the "original" Mummy, but the first Brendan Fraser one is very fun.
