So come, my friends, be not afraid/We are so lightly here/It is in love that we are made; In love we disappear

MY PEOPLE! MY ET-HATING PEOPLE!

I walked out, I was so pissed off. At seven or eight. (Depending on when I got dragged to see it. And dragged back in to finish seeing it. Apparently, one's sister and grandmother don't take kindly to their single-digit charge walking out of the film.)

I must obey the inscrutable exhortations of my soul—Calvin and Hobbs

I feel so vindicated. I thought I was the only one who hated that movie.

The lost sheep grow teeth, forsake their lambs, and lie with the lions.

I'm another one who didn't like ET. I think it was partially due to the blatant emotional manipulation and partially due to the fact that I went in with my expectations jacked sky-high for 'the best movie EVAR!!!1!'

Kiss me, my girl, before I'm sick.

Don Hertzfeldt has written a sequel to World of Tomorrow (!) and apparently it's just as amazing: [link]

If you haven't seen World of Tomorrow, do yourself a favour and check it out. It's only 15 min long and is streaming on Netflix. It is marvellous in a way that's difficult to describe and will give you ALL the feelings.

Back tattoos of the mother is that you are absolutely right - Ame

Out of nowhere, CJ just said he never liked ET. We weren't talking movies or anything. It cracked me up based on the conversation here. We agreed that the target audience were people like me who saw it when we were young when it first came out. The few times I've seen it since I haven't had that same Ohhhhh feeling - more I watch it out of nostalgia while thinking, this movie is a mess.

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

I haven't seen ET since it came out. Liked it then, though it's possible I liked the novelization better.

ETA: is CJ hooked into Facwbook's algorith, tracking you Suzi!?!?

No clue, -t. I laughed when he mentioned it, which was not the reaction he was expecting. Once I explained that my invisible internet friends started the discussion, he just rolled his eyes and went back to discussing why he doesn't like ET.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Can I borrow a time-turner from someone so I can watch this RIGHT NOW and then get back to the mountain of work I have to do?

[eta: Oh thank god, it's just an announcement. I have time to read that.]

The artist formerly associated with cupcakes.

I liked ET at the time, because blatant emotional manipulation really worked on me. But I rewatched it a few years ago, and while some fictional emotional manipulation still works on me, ET is now on my list of "Ew, can we not?" movies.

though it's possible I liked the novelization better.

Oh, I know I liked the novelization better. IIRC, I tended to like the movie novelizations for Spielberg movies better than the movies, except for Raiders of the Lost Ark.
