Anyone seen The Girl With All the Gifts ? I love the book and liked the movie, though not as much as the book.
We just finished it. Great movie. I have not read the book, so that's interesting about the motivation change. Wikipedia actually says the book and the film were written in tandem, which is an interesting approach.
We might finally be getting a non-terrible DC movie. Both the Io9 and Chicago Tribune reviews of Wonder Woman were very positive (though they both complained about the final battle.)
Chris Stuckmann had a similar review, and I usually trust his taste with genre movies.
Finally saw Rogue One today. Still mulling it over in my head.
I'd been semi-spoiled for the ending because it's kind of impossible to avoid while frequenting geeky sites. So I knew the general nature of the last thirty minutes if not the details.
I found the CGI characters, particularly Tarkin, creepy and immersion-breaking.
As for the end itself, I think it would have been better if the Captain dude (seriously, the only name I managed to remember was Jyn's) had died when we initially thought and the final scene with our heroes was Jyn by herself on the beach looking resolute as the blast wave rolled in. The "Your father would have been proud of you" bit and embrace seemed forced.
Because I was semi-spoiled, watching the movie felt similar to playing the game Halo: Reach. You know all these people are doomed, you just don't know the particulars.
Do not like the mustache, even though it's probably close to what Agatha Christie had in mind.
Michelle Pfeiffer is...an interesting casting choice for that character.
I was excited about this until I realized it was Branagh directing and acting. I think he's okay at both separately, at times, but with the exception of Henry V, I don't enjoy when he does both together.
Also: why remake an Agatha Christie movie where a significant portion of the audience already knows the solution? It's not like there's a lack of other Poirot material to adapt.
There are quite a lot of mustaches in that trailer ... but I'm quite fond of David Suchet's Poirot - he always struck me as about perfect in the role.
Branagh as Poirot - instant no. Depp within ten miles of anything Christie - HELL NO.
