Michelle Pfeiffer is...an interesting casting choice for that character.

A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.
I was excited about this until I realized it was Branagh directing and acting. I think he's okay at both separately, at times, but with the exception of Henry V, I don't enjoy when he does both together.
Also: why remake an Agatha Christie movie where a significant portion of the audience already knows the solution? It's not like there's a lack of other Poirot material to adapt.
There are quite a lot of mustaches in that trailer ... but I'm quite fond of David Suchet's Poirot - he always struck me as about perfect in the role.
Branagh as Poirot - instant no. Depp within ten miles of anything Christie - HELL NO.
Well, at least Depp won't be in it long, since I'm pretty sure he's playing the murder victim. (plot spoilers)
I find my reaction to Depp in anything these days is HELL NO. He's threatening to replace Nicholas Cage as my leading indicator of movies to avoid.
...the fact that Johnny Depp appears onscreen and yet is not shown wearing a silly hat...it's just a lot to take in...
Just for the perfection of the quote.

Always loved Suchet. Also, I think his moustache is more Poirot-accurate. He's so...Particular. The moustache on Branagh would annoy him with its crazy over-the-top-ness, it looks like it's about to take his mouth hostage.
Dana, I was thinking the same thing about the spoilers. And as a bonus, everybody gets to stab Johnny Depp.
Branagh is the wrong guy to play Poirot. I liked him in Wallander, but that's a very different type of detective. I'd have him in Sean Connery's part in the original, but it looks like that's Dafoe's character, and I can't see him as Poirot, either.
I don't get them remaking it, either. Yes, it's been 40 years, but the new one seems awfully reminiscent of the old one with the all-star cast and lavish production values. You know, unless they totally change the motive, murderer, and ending, and maybe toss in a sword fight on top of the train.
I went to the first available showing of Wonder Woman last night. The curse of DCEU suckitude is broken at last! Not perfect, but a good enjoyable movie that remembered there are things like humor, friendship, gratitude, and color saturation!
