"Fuck Western ideologically-motivated gender identification!" Sulu gasped, and came.

Urgh.

Look, I know the movie wants me to fancy Cassian, and ship him with Jin, and in the abstract I'm, like, Latino Han Soloish character? Good for you, fella! But at the end of the day I don't fancy him, and I'm not particularly interested in him or in Jin tbh. I am ALL ABOUT Not!Jedi warrior boyfriends Because they brought banter and awesome badassery, and I am frustrated that there aren't squazillions of great big fabulous swashbuckling fics out there yet.

Come the fuck on, people!

(I also really liked Bodhi, but I didn't ship him with anyone. But plotty gen backstory would be cool.

Unusually and exceedingly peculiar and altogether quite impossible to describe

One thing I liked that Rogue One included was the explanation that the Kyber crystals powered the lightsabers, because I've always wondered how they worked. (I've never seen any of the animated SW stuff, so if that was explained in there, obviously I didn't know.)

And then the fact that the Death Star is powered by the same thing that powers the lightsabers is really fitting.

Yes to both these points!

"I'm useless alone." // "We're all useless alone. It's a good thing you're not alone."

Saw the latest Fantastic Four. Um. They forgot to make a movie.

Also, please stop trying to make Miles Teller happen.

"I remember when they eventually introduced that drug kingpin who murdered people and smuggled drugs inside snakes and I was like 'Finally. A normal person.'” —RahvinDragand

Also, please stop trying to make Miles Teller happen.

Yes, please. It's like someone made a more talented but uglier clone of Shia Labeouf—the douchiness just comes rolling off him in waves.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

So, La La Land -- I thought it was great, but do we think it's getting SO much acclaim because people want to see something nice this year? (Also, I wish the singing had been better.)

brillig

I finally watched The Force Awakens last night. Sad to say, I was pretty bored through parts of its, and not the parts that were nearly a shot-for-shot recreation of the first movie. The two gangs suddenly appearing out of nowhere on Han's freighter? With added monsters? Why? And these planets all seem to be right next door to each other. Plus the one Han's on is conveniently placed so the shot that's supposed to be going through hyperspace from one solar system to another is conveniently visible overhead.

I hope Kylo grows out of his lightsaber tantrums.

I like Finn and Poe.

Punishingly Intricate

I was fine with the lala land singing, I liked that it wasn't all broadway star big voices, but I wish the plot was better. The stakes seemed really low to me. It was gorgeous, though.
