I am so jealous of your access to IMAX 70 mm!
Right? When The Math Greek proposed it as a long-distance movie date, I was like "Okay, but only if I can get an IMAX seat." I mean, it's right there, seemed a shame not to go for it. (He saw it in 70mm at the Vista, a format even rarer than mine.) Oddly enough, the movie turned out to be more romantic and sexy than either of us thought it would be.
Ooh, looks like AMC has rebooked its IMAX theaters for another
Sinners
run after
Thunderbolts.
Just booked a more reasonable center seat for the afternoon of the 15th.
I REMAIN JELLY SF PEEPS.
But I love you, so have a gift link to a great Atlantic article about Sinners and the Jim Crow economy. [link]
I just got back from seeing Sinners. Just about everything about it was wonderful—the story, the performances, the production and cinematography, and most especially the music. If it doesn't end up winning at least Best Score at the Oscars, it won't be for lack of quality.
My god, that scene where
he's playing the music and people start to appear from the past and the future...
The momentum Sinners is gaining is interesting -- for both the 2 theater locations that are closest to us, Sinners has more showtimes this weekend than Thunderbolts does. And Sinners opened, what, 3 weeks before Thunderbolts?
Just got back from Sinners. That was some good shit, like "This movie is someone's master's thesis" level of Things To Say, and I will see you all in the Tumblr tags.
I had a couple times where I anticipated the jumpscare, and a couple I didn't. I think the gore felt...anatomical, rather than gory? And, yeah, not gratuitous.
I could never pull off, but covet deeply, the knit dress Mary wore at the train station, both as a knitter and as a person who wears clothes.
Going to see Sinners tomorrow.
