I really just don't like Branagh's version of Poirot, I think. I found it a very frustrating movie because there were parts of it I liked a lot but the parts that struck me wrong really overshadowed anything else. And that's been true of all three, I'm pretty sure. I did not refamiliarize myself with Halloween Party before watching this one, so I don't think it's divergence from canon as such that bothered me except in a broad that-is-not-how-that-character-is sense that is probably much more headcanon than actual canon
Buffista Movies Across the 8th Dimension!
A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.
I had many opinions about the Poirot backstory in Death of the Nile. Though the TV adaptations have done worse to Miss Marple.
Both of those are wrong and bad (assuming that you are referring to the travesty I am thinking of wrt Marple and I am pretty sure you are)
Did they make Miss Marple a WWI veteran, too?
I wish. They added a tragic backstory where her MARRIED lover was killed in WWI.
Miss Marple would NEVER.
I don't know what these people are thinking.

See this is why I generally stick to the books. I have actually seen very few adaptations.
Congrats, amych! That is really cool! eta: yes, this was for Natter
Special one-night theatrical release of the remastered version of The Abyss [link]
I may have to go, if only for my young crush on both Ed Harris and Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio
I'll have to watch that again. I had watched The Abyss too soon after I read the book and was seriously aggravated over the missing parts. It has now been enough time that I can watch it for the beauty of the film without that factor to distract me.
