Buffista Movies Across the 8th Dimension!

A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.

We are Buffistas. This isn't our first apocalypse. -- Pix

It's kinda sexist/creepy, as I recall.

The new one doesn't make a lot more sense than the original, but it's fun and doesn't piss me off, and some of the set pieces are truly great.

GS: If you had to choose between kicking evil in the head or the behind, which would you choose, and why? Minsc: I'm not sure I understand the question. I have two feet, do I not? You do not take a small plate when the feast of evil welcomes seconds.

It's probably been at least 15 years since I last watched it, but I doubt a week goes by without someone I know (or myself) quoting the original Ghostbusters. Of course, I work in IT, so the geek-quotient is high.

"I remember when they eventually introduced that drug kingpin who murdered people and smuggled drugs inside snakes and I was like 'Finally. A normal person.'” —RahvinDragand

I saw it yesterday. It was enjoyable, but not great, and I really think they fell down on providing an interesting villain.

I've heard lots of people praising Kate McKinnon, but although I love her on SNL I thought she was just playing a bundle of tics rather than a character in this movie. I will give them points for Kristen Wiig playing an original character that I didn't hate, though.

I must obey the inscrutable exhortations of my soul—Calvin and Hobbs

I thought Kate McKinnon was great--easily one of my favorite parts of the movie. I've never seen her in anything before, but I thought her character was like if Tank Girl had gotten an engineering degree. And I love Tank Girl, so.

Overall, the movie was a lot of fun. There were some bits that dragged, mostly at the beginning, but I'd watch it again.

Kiss me, my girl, before I'm sick.

I had fun time with Ghostbusters and agree with McKinnon being a standout, despite Holtzmann having less character development than the other three. What brilliant physicality.

I don't watch SNL these days, but someone linked me to a sketch they did last year in which McKinnon plays an alien abductee on youtube, which made me laugh until I cried. She made everyone on that sketch (except Cecily Strong, God bless) break: [link]

Life moves pretty fast. You don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.

I found the movie amusing rather than really funny, but McKinnon was a pleasure to watch. I also liked Andy Garcia in his brief moments.

If I want to become a cloud of bats, does each bat need a separate vaccination?

her character was like if Tank Girl had gotten an engineering degree

I NEED THIS MOVIE IN MY LIFE

See? I gave everybody here an opportunity to tell me what a bad person I am and nobody did, because I fuckin' rule.

Warning: There is a Buffista-specific potential crypoint that people may need to be prepared for - as the team is moving into their new digs and setting up shop, they're all bopping and rocking out to a bouncy happy song from the 80s that made my heart feel all joyful and sad and clutched-up and then right before the chorus I realized that it was one of ita's favorite guilty pleasure songs, and my heart just kind of flopped over.

So, if your emotions are easily triggered by music and memories, you may want to brace yourself just a bit when they're moving into their new digs and setting up shop.

On the plane to NY, husband and I watched, among other things, Mamma Mia.

Everyone was either drunk, or wanted a free trip to Greece, or both. Right? Please tell me I'm right.
