I'm just, uh, just feeling kinda... truthsome right now. And, uh... life's just too damn short for ifs and maybes.

A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.

Nana korobi, ya oki. (Fall down seven times, stand up eight.) ~Yuzuru Hanyu/Japanese proverb

That really messed me up. I've been retweeting and reblogging on tumblr all the nice stuff being said. Not sure how I'm going to handle it when I'm actually watching the new Star Trek movie.

"I remember when they eventually introduced that drug kingpin who murdered people and smuggled drugs inside snakes and I was like 'Finally. A normal person.'” —RahvinDragand

My prior plan not to watch it feels like it will work for me. I may make an effort to watch Odd Thomas or Fierce People in memory of him, though.

Karl Urban had been at Denver Comic Con this weekend, but as soon as he got th he news he left. Thankfully, his fans were very understanding.

Thrive to spite them

There was one really horrid comment on JEzebel and I don't know if it was removed because I couldn't find it again but unfortunately horrid people will be horrid.

"We are the Goon Squad and we're coming to town...Beep! Beep!" - David Bowie, "Fashion"

Run over by his own car. If it wasn't so horribly tragic it would be funny. But it's seriously tragic. He'd already done some really memorable roles.

So come, my friends, be not afraid/We are so lightly here/It is in love that we are made; In love we disappear

God, his poor parents. By all accounts, they were a very close family and he was their only child. His parents were famous enough as athletes that it was newsworthy when they chose to get refugee status in the US when he was a baby and he was their stated reason.

Life moves pretty fast. You don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.

About a year or so ago, we were heading up the escalator to a local movie theater with our friends and we hear "Hey! Andy! Hi!" It was Anton and his parents who had just seen whatever movie we were on our way to. He was so unaffectedly delighted to see Andy (Propmaster on the Star Trek Movies), solicitous of his parents and so nice to the DH and I that it was a pleasure meeting him. Lots of actors of his stature would not even remember the prop guy's name, let alone greet him so happily. Just in that short interaction, you could tell he was a total good guy. Such a shame.

I must obey the inscrutable exhortations of my soul—Calvin and Hobbs

I'm watching Elizabeth: the Golden Age, with Cate Blanchett. I'm only partway in, but I want every bit of jewelry Elizabeth has worn thus far.

Unusually and exceedingly peculiar and altogether quite impossible to describe

So, the commercial for "Bad Moms" makes it look horrible, but I really like all 3 of the lead actresses. Quandary.
