Natter 74: Ready or Not

I swear I'm going to go full out Mommie Dearest on my roommate one of these days, but instead of wire hangers, it will be cutlery and dishes from the dishwasher, once again put into in in every wrong way you can think of, and some which you'd swear were physically impossible.
Why is gravity so hard for her to understand?
Me to my mom: "I'm kind of sad about my maternity leave ending. It's going to be hard to be away from Jane all day."
My mom: "Yeah, I'm glad I didn't have to do that when you and your brother were young. It would have been too hard."
Um, thanks?
Why is gravity so hard for her to understand?
How close are you to deciding it would be easier to just take over loading the dishwasher since she's so bad at it?

So, I'm wearing my new animal print shirt (I think it's a sort of pastiche of several big cat patterns - classier than it probably sounds, I hope (but I am not attempting to wear it with the new pleather skirt, went with my favorite black dress pants today)) and one of my coworkers told me it looks good with my complexion. That's always so nice, especially since it isn't something I would have thought (not that I think it looks bad, but I never considered Tawny Lion a flattering color on me)
Timelies all!
Watching last week's Doctor Who, then baseball.
Ugh. When Joanne left, it meant that our ability to get Grace to Tuesday PT stopped. They have scheduled us into a Thursday at 5:00 slot. On good days we are abel to get home at 4:30 and we live at least 30 minutes from the clinic without traffic. We'll have to see how it goes.
Dishwashers: unless they're the brand "my Mom", never had one. We have one at work and once watched three coworkers argue about the best way to load it at 10pm after an event. Yeah, we could have hand washed that before they finished reloading and pressing start.
Goats are here!
It's amazing the difference in personalities and attitudes between what are basically donated rescue goats, and those who had been bottle fed by Ann and raised in a happy life. The herd last year felt like instant friends, while these guys are wary and biters and even the idea of a field is foreign to them. The amazing thing is that a lot of them were donated by kids from 4-H groups. This is their first year as free goats. Now they get to breed in a natural cycle, roam and graze fairly freely, and just be goats, instead of breeders, milkers, or meat. I hope me and Beast can be friends. The Beast list in the fire was my Rottweiler teddy bear (said with a deep love of Rotties).
We stopped after dinner to feed the ducks, and there was one all-white duck who was exceptionally friendly. At first I thought it had some kind of wound around his neck, but it was some kind of band. So then we wondered if someone was tagging the birds in some way, but none of the other ducks had anything. My husband, who is more intrepid than I am, managed to grab the duck, and he stayed calm enough for us to see that it was some kind of kid's rubber bracelet. So we took it off.
I figure either someone was playing around and put it on him, in which case it was good to take it off, or he's...someone's pet? But it wasn't any kind of ID, so it shouldn't prevent him from returning home if he lives near by.
Also, he tried to follow us back to the car.
Edit: How many times can I use "some kind" in a post? Question answered.
Goats and ducks!
I overslept this morning, but still got the kids on time. But of course, they were running late because the middle girl wouldn't get out of bed and then they were so talky and sniping at each other, but by god, I got them to school on time even if I had to stop by the house on the way home because I forgot to put on work shoes and mascara. And coffee. The last one was the bad one.
The last one maybe caused the others?
So, my friends' wedding in a couple of weeks is a mile from the subway. Cab, right?
Home from vet. Squeaky did
not
need her tooth extracted, just an ultrasonic cleaning. She did need anesthesia though. She wandered around groggy for a bit; now she's sleeping on my lap.
