Happy belated birthday, sarameg! That sounds lovely, monsoon and all.
Happy birthday, Sox!
On the other hand, could trying hurt?
GO FOR IT
My boss was just super unhelpful, expecting me to know something that apparently no one else knows either. I told Friendly Co-worker I ought to find another GD* job. She said lol it's not that bad R U evn wearing pants right now? I said lol pajamas. So yeah, I'm staying. I've known my boss was nuts for 15 years, it's not like it's news.
*not gestational diabetes
It sounds like an excellent birthday celebration overall, Sara. Happy year!
I add to the chorus of "Go for it," Calli. Your coworker obviously thinks you're qualified.
It does seem weird that mi cuit (half-baked, as I know from google) is used for salmon and chocolate cake with a runny center.
Most jobs seem to have a crazy boss at some point. At least you can roll your eyes at her with impunity.
Those are both things I like to eat, though. So that's something.
Yes, working from home does mean no one can see you rolling your eyes, (as well as the pajama thing).
The handyman showed up when he said he would! Holy cow. I'm finally getting that patio door replaced. People around here underestimate how much their labor is worth; it makes me feel like I'm taking advantage of them. I expected this job to cost $200, he just quoted me $80 including parts. I guess I'm used to New Jersey.
Nice.
My parents looked into getting their patio door fixed (the screen door frame is a little bent from getting walked into) but no one would do it,they'd have to replace it entirely. There's some reason for that, but I forget what. Anyway, yay fixed door and timely handyman, is what i'm trying to say.

That's aweosme, Zen! Seems so rare something would cost LESS than expected.
I have a ton of work to do today, in part because I just do but in part because our stupid system went down again and I haven't been able to do any real work since Wednesday afternoon. They're supposed to fix it for me later today. In the meantime I have SIX meetings today. So I'm not sure when I will get all this "urgent" stuff done...also I have to leave again on Sunday. I am seriously hitting camel-last-straw territory here. Grr.
Ooh, that sounds great. Even though I don't know what mi cuit is. (I mean, I do now because google.)
Ha! I have now also googled. At first I thought that it was some sort of autocorrect fail :)
Apparently, my catsitters let Hazel out on the screened-in back porch, which makes me very nervous, because the screens are crappy! So I'm afraid she would get out, which I do not want, even though I love the idea of letting her go half-outside. Anyway, I wonder how much that would cost to fix. Probably not $80.
One of my coworkers clued me in on a job opening at my org that should hit right around the time my probationary period's up. It would be a 50% raise and put me back were I was, income-wise, before the layoff. It's nice that he thinks I should try for what's effectively a promotion, 3-months in. I'm not as sure. On the other hand, could trying hurt?
If possible, see if you can float the idea before actually applying? I can see my boss (e.g.) being put off by someone looking for a promotion right off the bat, but not if she knew they were hired under their ability.

Yes, that would be awesome.
