Natter 74: Ready or Not
Off-topic discussion. Wanna talk about corsets, duct tape, butt kicking, or physics? This is the place. Detailed discussion of any current-season TV must be whitefonted.
One of our friends with a HUGE gorgeous house has started having a Cheese Ball every year. The guests dress up super fancy -- though it's not required, because we're chill like that -- and everyone brings cheese. That is a great way to try new cheeses. And eat 5,000 pounds of cheese in one evening.
I always appreciate the person who brings Cheetos.
to make enchiladas [because corn tortillas, while GF, are too small]
Have you tried the casserole/New Mexico style of enchiladas? You could use multiple tortillas per layer.
My new long-term career goal is to become a cheesemonger.
I confess, I was skimming that paragraph, which is why I read "My new long-term goal is to become a cheeseburger."

You know what? I've seen those recipes and think, "I should try that!" And then apparently the thought immediately leaves my brain. I bet I could make those.

I do love a cheeseburger!
I already know what a bunch of Buffistas are doing this weekend; what other things do people have planned?
This weekend looks to be jam-packed for me. There's The New York Art Book Fair, the Brooklyn Book Festival, and if I have the energy, this screening. Plus, I want to squeeze some photography in.
Because pimpkin ain't easy??
In the immortal words of That Guy on Dave Chappelle, hell yeah. Can't edit now, because that's too good.
Somewhat relatedly, I should not be allowed in Cost Plus without a minder.
I would love to be a cheesemonger! Are the only things you can mong cheese, fish, whores and war? Of those, cheesemonger is clearly the best. Although I am sure there are many fine fishmongers who elevate their profession, I am not tempted to become one.
This weekend: I have a 5k with both my parents tomorrow, and a heart health walk of some sort on Sunday (also with my parents and also Walter and I still need to sign up for that come to think of it...) and then three more days off, hooray! Today I plan to make some actual plans so I don't fritter all that time away waffling about what to do.
Timelies all!
Tomorrow night there's a housefilk/sing/party and Sunday(weather permitting) will be Baby's First trip to the Renaissance Faire.
The only time I really got annoyed at someone over a dietary restriction thing was one of my cousins, who was going to some quack "doctor" who kept telling her that she needed to restrict more and more things. One year, at Rosh Hashanah, she was on no dairy, no gluten, and several other things that didn't really impact what I was cooking. I was in charge of making all the side dishes, so specifically made them all gluten-free in addition to being vegan. (And I know how to read labels -- these were as gluten-free as possible while being cooked in a kitchen that used gluten in other stuff.) When she came for dinner, she wouldn't eat any of them, because she insisted that "You never know" what gluten the manufacturers might have snuck into their products, and she also wouldn't eat anything made with dairy-free margarine or dairy-free chocolate, because she said that there wasn't any such thing, and all those "dairy-free" products (which were labeled dairy-free and vegan and parve and lots of other words indicating NO DAIRY) actually all had hidden dairy. But she ate the matzo ball soup, because she said that she was fine with one matzo ball, but two would make her sick. I gave up on planning any dishes around her food issues after that.
Baby's First trip to the Renaissance Faire.
That's terrific!
No such thing as dairy-free margarine or chocolate? That's a new one on me. Totally brings to mind that scene from The Office where Angela says "Never mind, I'll just eat bread" at the Diwali party because she's vegetarian.
Signed up for heart walk, realize there is conflict with football and mostly have made my peace with that (not letting my DVR go into energy-saving mode seems to have solved that not recording things problem. I am, of course, conflicted about that but I will do it over the short-term). Considering making an Irish coffee before I begin my next task, because why not? And I have a new coffee-making device to try out. Because I have a problem. But I didn't buy a teapot nor any wine, so, some self-control.
