My boss is having me help out (should I say "mentor"? is that better business jargon? I could put that shit on my resume) a new freelance editor,

Well, I guess that means she thinks you're doing the job right.

edit: and yes, put that shit on a resume.

What Connie said. Both of it.

Y'all can have the pumpkin everything. I like pumpkin pie with Thanksgiving dinner and that does me for pumpkin for the year. When did this madness begin, marketing pumpkin everything in the fall? I don't remember it before a few years ago.

I think it was only 3-5 years ago. I just legit love pumpkin-flavored stuff. For most of my life I never ate it, including pumpkin pie. And then I ate either pumpkin ice cream or pumpkin pie some time in my 30s and realized what I had been missing, and the pumpkin beast was unleashed in my belly.

My mom makes a pumpkin pie that's way better than anything you can get in a store, so that's been my preferred birthday "cake" since I was a kid.

I love pumpkin. Perhaps I am basic at heart. Or Midwestern. Something like that. I would choose pumpkin pie over most fruit pies any day. And over pecan, or most cream pies. (I haven't hard sugar cream pie in a long time so I'd probably try that if I had a chance, but I digress). I do also love yams and sweet potatoes and butternut squash and all those orangey fall veggies. Roasted or creamed or baked....yum.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

I don't know why, but I have to emphasize that most stuff is pumpkin SPICE flavor, not pumpkin flavor. People were all up in arms last year that the PSL doesn't have pumpkin, but that's not the point! The point is nutmeg, etc.

That said, pumpkin ice cream is the best.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

I like pumpkin pie and pumpkin bread, but that's it. Perhaps if I still drank coffee I'd like the pumpkin stuff at Starbucks.

Yaaaasssss.

That is true, and my love is for pumpkin, not just the spices. (Though pumpkin *without* the spices is just sad.)

Oooh. It's getting to be time to make butternut squash enchiladas. Nom nom nom.

My fellow newbie editor called me, and I talked him through his problem (downloading articles from our online system, which honestly isn't hard, but isn't exactly intuitive). I really don't like talking to strangers, but since it was a functional call with a specific goal, and I didn't have to just make small talk, it was fine. Dude was very grateful.
