Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

Well, there aren't mosquitos in San Francisco.

You were a wrong baby who grew up wrong. The wrong kind of wrong. It's better you hear it from a friend.

Last Friday was my office dinner. My brother came over to look after Ryan while we schmoozed with the office bods (a process that apparently involved no less than three episodes of the Muppet Show). He confirmed it went pretty smoothly:

Me: "So how did you go with Ryan tonight?"
Brendan: "Good, no problems. It was like babysitting Manny from Modern Family."

I feel I should be watching more Modern Family, to better understand my boy.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Well, there aren't mosquitos in San Francisco.

Huh. Also no flies??

Not that I remember.

Punishingly Intricate

There are definitely flies in SF, but, yeah, no screens! I had to get little adjustable screens for my windows there to try to prevent my cat from just coming and going as he pleased. (It didn't really work, though, he'd flee out the door and would go crazy if I tried to keep him in so eventually I just left a back window ajar for him so he could be the inside/outside cat he was.)

Every now and then, I think I might actually be a little odd.

if anyone asked me why I was a few minutes late today I would have to explain that it was because I had to fill the birdbath. It was completely dry and the high today is supposed to be 106! I'm already half expecting to come home one day and find that the starlings next door have rallied the finches and sparrows to confront me, chirping loudly how I have failed this city.

I always feel so guilty when I fail at my self-appointed task of providing above-ground and ground-level clean water sources for the local fauna. Are birds fauna?

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

I think so. They aren't flora. The backyard always has the container water garden but the birdbath in the front is shallow and dries up when it's hot.

Work is kind of sucking today, and people are getting on my nerves, BUT another department is having a bake sale (to benefit another employee who is in the hospital and doesn't have much of a family support system, so good cause) and now I have strawberry pie with whipped cream and a chocolate cupcake with peanut butter frosting. There will be root beer floats available at lunch time. The sweets are definitely helping.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

My coworker came in with her tiny baby AND breads for us! Amazing.
