Natter 74: Ready or Not
Off-topic discussion. Wanna talk about corsets, duct tape, butt kicking, or physics? This is the place. Detailed discussion of any current-season TV must be whitefonted.
Your days are so interesting, aurelia! I would never have thought of that. Did it work? She asks having never successfully caught anything with a net that wasn't already caught on a line. I'm all about opening the windows and trying to herd.
If anyone has wondered whether s'mores made with unsweetened chocolate will work: yes, all the sugar in the marshmallow sweetens it up nicely. To my taste, anyway.
Is this the moment Trump's chances end?

I'm not sober. But there is a recording of Trump bragging about being able to get away with sexual assault because he's a celebrity.
There seems to be a developong consensus that Trump can't recover from this. There's talk of replacing him on the ballot, but it's too late.
I wish I could believe that would be enough.
Which is a sad state of affairs, but this is where I find myself.
Is this the moment Trump's chances end?
It's starting to look like it might be. I can't believe it -- there's been so much awful stuff, another terrible revelation of another indefensible statement or appalling episode every damn day. When I first heard this, I just sort of shrugged and said, "Meh. Of course he said that," and went off for after-dinner drinks with co-workers and didn't think about it again.
Until I left to hop on the late shuttle back home, and turned my phone on again, and Facebook had blown up with it.
I still don't get it. This? Of all the things, ever, after everything everyone (especially women) said for month upon month, this is what finally sends him over the cliff?

Yeah, I'm not understanding how this is so much worse than any of the many, other odious things he has said and done.

I'm also cynical enough to think that plenty of his followers think the exact. same. way. about women (they probably refer to women as "females") and they admire Trump for being about to get away with what they think they should be allowed to do.
Is that awful to think? I do, though.
I think it's that there's no way to huff and puff and blow this away by victim blaming or claiming media bias or general bluster shouting it down. It's his words, captured and there's nowhere to hide from it.
And those words are so super awful and straight up sexual assault-y. I think that's why it's blowing up, there's absolutely no way to spin this.
We beat the 60-minute time limit with only 2 minutes to spare.
We had half an hour and got out with a minute to go. One of the other teams did it in 19 minutes, and there are rumors that someone was picking locks. The person in question denies it, but did casually say a good shim can be made from a pop can.
Paul Ryan actually un-invited Trump from a campaign event in WI tomorrow. (Although give me a fucking break -- THIS is what it takes for Ryan to try to claim the moral high ground? He can fuck right off.)
I think that's why it's blowing up, there's absolutely no way to spin this.
And yet there are people -- women, even -- who are defending it, and STILL saying without a trace of irony that there's no difference between the candidates or that HRC is worse.
What fucking planet do they live on?
I can't WAIT for the debate Sunday.
