Even worse for the US, there were militias (platoons? I don't know the terminology) made up of free men of color who were promised land for fighting against the English and not only never got what they were promised, they lost a lot of rights and social standing after the war. It's pretty fucked up.

Off-topic discussion. Wanna talk about corsets, duct tape, butt kicking, or physics? This is the place. Detailed discussion of any current-season TV must be whitefonted.
it's going to be well out of the city center, in a hotel near a mall, maybe two malls. And we don't get to rent a car.
That is ridiculous!
Yep, Black Loyalists. Americans who stayed loyal to the crown were called United Empire Loyalists. A lot of them came to Nova Scotia. The black folk were given land, but it was not great land.
Huh. The (black) guy I went to my prom with was originally from Halifax, but I wonder how long ago his family had gone there.
Oh, no, Cass, how awful! You all must be so frightened, and the kids must be, too.
Got up for the 7AM meeting this morning, and my internet went out at 7:15.

Let us hate everything about this morning together.
About to go vote. Whee! Wish it was November type voting, but this will do for now.
I was a little worried you were still stuck in Chicago, and would be, for perpetuity.

My entire body hurts from lack of sleep and running a mile through O'Hare in an attempt to make my connecting flight Sunday night. They let me board the plane, but the seat was occupied. O'Hare held my checked bag hostage, so I spent the night in the O'Hare Hilton with no toiletries other than what was in the hotel bathroom. They rebooked me first class, which was nice, but my flight yesterday got delayed 5 hours for mechanical problems. I now have $600 worth of vouchers from United.
I really don't want to go back to the airport tomorrow. Guess who I'm flying to Atlanta? United. Ha ha. Ha.
Oy, shrift.
That's so awful, Cass! I don't have any idea what could be done, but if there's any way I can help I will.
In me news, it seems pretty unfair that I did so well getting through Monday at work and now I have to do it again. Whose idea was this?
O'Hare was the airport we connected through when we flew home, after retrieving lots of husband's childhood artifacts when his parents were preparing to sell the house. So we had two checked bags each, full of pictures and stuff.
Flight was delayed a good 8 hours or so. When we got to baggage claim in Houston, our bags had somehow not made the plane.
