This money, it is too much. You should have some small refund.

I'm terrifically busy with my ennui.

Boo, Sheryl.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Oh no, Sheryl! That sucks.

I must obey the inscrutable exhortations of my soul—Calvin and Hobbs

I'm glad you weren't hurt, Sheryl.

Love is stronger than death and harder than sorrow. Those who practice it are fierce like the light of stars traveling eons to pierce the night.

Sheryl, I'm glad you are ok. I hope the fuss and bother with the insurance is not too much.

We are Buffistas. This isn't our first apocalypse. -- Pix

So glad nobody's hurt, Sheryl, and that it didn't happen with the little guy in the car.

Brenda, how awful. What a tragedy.

I finally got some info about a training in San Diego next month -- it's going to be well out of the city center, in a hotel near a mall, maybe two malls. And we don't get to rent a car. So I'm suddenly pretty disgruntled, especially since the info says that "business casual" forbids jeans. And I'm like, seriously? I can wear jeans in my office but I can't wear it at your training? Stupid.

Sad about Gene Wilder, but it sounds like he had a better experience with AD than many people do.

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

Ugh, Sheryl. I'm glad no one is hurt.

Coding and Sleeping

Sorry, Sheryl, that sucks. Glad you're okay though.

That is dumb, Consuela.

This article is fascinating (from a link about the slaves mentioned in the Star Spangled Banner)--I had no idea, but now I really want to read fiction about these people/events! (I mean, nonfiction would be interesting too, but probably written more dryly than I like my reading). People who were slaves who escaped and fought for the British in the war of 1812, and were rewarded with land in Trinidad (or Nova Scotia apparently!?). Pretty cool! (I mean, sad and depressing about the United States involvement in that, for sure)

Huma Abedin probably can't have a better boss for right now than she has in HC. I hope.

Yep, Black Loyalists. Americans who stayed loyal to the crown were called United Empire Loyalists. A lot of them came to Nova Scotia. The black folk were given land, but it was not great land. [link]

There is a book called Book of Negroes, that is about Black Loyalists, but I think it's mainly about a group of them who go back to Africa. It was made into a mini-series. (I have started the book but not got very far in, and have never seen the series.) Book: [link] TV: [link]
