Angel: Yeah, I never told anyone about this, but I-I liked your poems. Spike: You like Barry Manilow.

I’d be lying if I didn’t say that I miss them all tonight…

Home-made ginger (and root) beer tends to be highly carbonated/explosive (or not at all, if the batch goes bad). My mom has many great stories of her dad's experiments with trying to make his own. Very messy, apparently.

Fandom means never having to say "But where would I wear that?"

Timelies all!

I'm sorry, Gud.

Went to the Negro League Baseball Museum and the Jazz Museum today. Very nice.

"There are few hours in life more agreeable than the hour dedicated to the ceremony known as afternoon tea."

Nope. It generally is not.

Okay, that is what I thought because they sell it around here in stores that don't sell alcohol.

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

The instructions for making kvass include stern warnings about tying down the corks so they don't pop off during the fermentation process. And that's a small beer, I guess a little alcoholic but that's not the point of it.

You were a wrong baby who grew up wrong. The wrong kind of wrong. It's better you hear it from a friend.

Biyi is quite into the (non-alcoholic) ginger beer. Which led at one point to an intervention by her father, who was very concerned about the amount of beer she was drinking. She had to explain to him that it was not the same as regular beer.

She found him afterwards with an empty bottle and a dictionary, translating the whole thing back into Chinese to make sure.

All I know of ginger beer is that it was used in a threatening manner in one of Pratchett's Night Watch books, as a potential part in a dirty interrogation (though only as a threat, and Vimes was disgusted with himself). I have no idea what is so threatening about ginger beer.

I'm not sure if this is what Pratchett was thinking of, but I've heard of it being used by shaking it up and forcing it up the target's nose. Apparently that can get very painful.

I think I am done with working. I just need to set my voicemail to vacation and I am out of here.

"I keep to a strict diet of ill-advised enthusiasm and heartfelt regret." Leigh Bardugo

Total randomness..... One of the US decathletes at the Olympics is part of the Hogwarts Running Club that I run with, though he is a Gryffindor. Apparently, when he was introduced, he did a wand thing. And while doing his high jump, his last chance, he whispered, "expecto patronum!" So cool.

Love is stronger than death and harder than sorrow. Those who practice it are fierce like the light of stars traveling eons to pierce the night.

~ma for your mom, Matt.

Gud, I am sorry to hear about Thor. They give us so much love but they just can't stay.

Goodnight, Happy Cat. Goodnight Sylvia.
