Giles, if you would like to get by in American society, then you are going to have to follow our traditions. You're the patriarch. You have to host the festivities, or it's all meaningless.

Our wings are not tired.

I trained 2 of my doctors yesterday. The first one has a picture of himself with Trump at some Palm Beach event taped on the door to his office. He normally has Fox News playing on the wall mounted tv in his office, but I arrived before he did so it wasn't on yet. As with our prior meetings I never glanced in the direction of his door or mentioned anything. The second doc was bemoaning the fact that universal healthcare wouldn't happen in his lifetime because insurance companies are too greedy. I didn't bother to hide the Hillary sticker I have on the back of my phone case with him because he has been really open about his lefty leaning in the past. I would say 75% of my customer doctors are Republicans, but I am super proficient at answering questions in a non political manner. Now if they ask straight out I am not going to lie, and when they blame all the electronic medical records stuff on Obama I do remind them it was Bush. But when a customer has a smiley face picture of him and The Donald taped to his door I know how to stay far far away from chit chat.

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

Meanwhile, may I present our PM & family at Vancouver Pride [link], or randomly hiking in Quebec

I read that as PMM (a couple of times, actually, as I saw it yesterday and marked it to go back to dlater and then really did go back to it) and was bewildered when I clicked the link.

peaches from the farmer's market. fuck yeah peaches.

Somebody brought in peaches from, I assume, their tree (I don't know who brought them, there was just a bag full on the counter). I concur with your conclusion.

Fandom means never having to say "But where would I wear that?"

Timelies all!

The little guy is taking great delight in hitting the top of the DVR. When he started pulling it towards him, I moved him. Silly destructo-baby.

Why isn't everyone pelting me with JOY, dammit? - Zenkitty

Wasn't somebody (Jesse maybe?) looking for a wheelie personal shopping cart thingy? If so:

Are statements labeled "friendly reminders" ever actually friendly? It doesn't seem like it.

Sort of the "Not to be offensive, but..." school of qualifiers.

What is even happening?

I can't stand podcasts and I wish I liked them. Listening to someone read when I can't see their face bothers me. I have to concentrate hard to hear the words and put them together into meaning, and my mind drifts away mid-sentence. Also I can read faster than anyone can talk and I feel like it slows my brain down. Plus the sheer annoyance of someone "umm"ing and stumbling, and laughing and chatter in the background making it hard to hear.

ZenKitty, this is my story, this is my song! I hate vid and audio (without the choice for a transcript, that is) for exactly these reasons!

It's funny, but a lot of your stated positions are very Hillary! (Outside of the war thing, where I believe she gets painted as a lot more hawkish than she actually is, given that even her support of the resolution that got us into the mess was worded very strongly in favor of the whole "only as a last resort should diplomatic solutions fail us") Who also gets painted as a centrist!

Possibly because she's about pragmatic, sustainable change? Like losing 1-2lbs a week vs. a crash diet?

I had a difficult time choosing a candidate in the MA state primary, so I took the "I Side With," quiz and sided with both Hillary and Bernie, 90%. [Full disclosure: I ended up voting for Hill, because I believed she could defeat T.Rump, but would be totally happy with Bernie as my Prez.)

This is pretty similar to her path.

The above is in re: my (ashamedly) slow move from civil marriage support to full marriage equality support. I'm not proud of the speed of my evolution. That said, I did have an evolution, and so I felt sorry for Obama, when he was roundly mocked for saying he had evolved. I was never for shutting same sex families out of their civil rights. I was just slow to realize that extending marriage was the best answer. I'm sorry to anyone here, who I hurt with my reticence.

Screw the constitution. Can't we figure out a way to make Justin Trudeau be our president too?

I'm up for this. He's pretty cute.
