Sam Wang's Princeton Election Consortium
That's the one! It's lagging right now, because it's based solely on state polls, and there've only been three post-conventions (NV, PA, GA). But it also tracks Obama's net approval rating, which has been fun to watch (4% today!), and even takes a stab at the likely Senate and House result.
Meanwhile, xkcd has things to say about the fact-checkers: [link]
I think sacrifice possibilities is definitely still sacrifice. It reminds me of a segment on NPR where they talked about the meaning of gifts at Christmas were initially intended to be sacrificial. In fact, they implied the most meaningful gifts are ones that require sacrifice from the giver.
Kat! Hi, hi, hi! How are Noah, Grace, and Katie? Well, I hope (and you too).
I think you're right, above. I just think that at a certain income level, when you "give up" family time (or whatever) for work, it is no longer sacrifice. It is a choice (and freely admit this comes from my judge-y gut).
This time last year, DH and I weren't only broke, we were in the hole. Because he handles our bills (and because he tries to shelter me) he didn't tell me and we ended up in a big damned financial mess, because this kind man doesn't know how to say, "No," to us.
The money troubles were related to a few things. Ben got into (and went to) an expensive private college. At the time he accepted, TWoP was still active and I was still making good money.
When TWoP shut down, I shut down because I was frigging depressed (over it and family things, including death) and didn't find new work.
In a world in which we didn't have a kid in a private pricey college, it would have been okay. I was in too much denial to think about the numbers. DH was too gentle to break the news to me and started robbing Peter to pay Paul.
And my point, which I'm sure I had, is now lost. So there.
Podcasts: Pop Culture Happy Hour! Also Malcolm Gladwell' Revisionist history.
I second, PCHH. Also West Wing Weekly, Who? Weekly (for serious celebrity snark), Lore, and, not to seem totally frivolous, CBCs Ideas.
Jesse, not Brenda but, the thing with the president's tailors was the last segment on Invisibilia the clothing episode (I JUST listened to it this morning).
Cool, thanks.
Other podcasts: Another Round, Double X, Code Switch, Extra Hot Great, Making the Sausage. That last one is interviews with people in all different aspects of the TV industry, and is generally fascinating.
Man, more podcasts I will never manage to keep up on. But good to know they are out there! I am Marking this discussion for later reference in case I should find myself able to listen to a whole bunch of stuff.
Five Thirty Eight nearly gave me a heart attack last week when Trump's projected chances of winning eclipsed Clinton's. I like 2-to-1 odds much better, though I'd rather have 20-to-1 or 200-to-1.
I think some of what's happening is that without a field of multiple fellow candidates to contend with over the nomination, Trump can't confine himself to just attacking disliked politicians the public considers fair game and is going after people that they can identify with. Basically, if you mock and insult Ted Cruz you anger Ted Cruz and maybe Heidi; mocking and insulting the grieving parents of a soldier who died in combat puts you in Westboro Baptist Church territory and people aren't able to ignore it so well anymore.
So many podcasts! I am ignoring all suggestions as I already can't keep up with my subscriptions.
I am unwisely subscribing to some, even though I am so behind on so many and I have so little room on my phone! I did have two six hour car rides this weekend, so I've made some room!

The current now-cast is making me laugh and laugh. I'm starting to wonder if Trump can go into negative numbers on the now-cast.
